Vermont Law and Graduate School (VLGS), a national leader in legal writing, environmental law, and restorative justice, invites applications for two Assistant /Associate Professors of Legal Writing. The positions are fully remote. Successful candidates must hold an ABA-accredited J.D. law degree. Applicants must also have legal work experience, demonstrated teaching experience, and proven research and writing ability. Experience with residential and/or online teaching is required. Junior and senior-level lateral candidates will be considered. The position starts July 2026; an earlier January 2026 start is possible.
 
Students at VLGS take three required legal writing courses. Legal Research and Writing and Legal Writing II span the first year. They offer students an immersive, structured introduction to systems of American Law, legal organization, objective and persuasive writing, and oral communication. VLGS has standardized the curriculum in Legal Research and Writing for all sections. Professors teaching Legal Writing II share common course outcomes but design curricula for their sections based on their own interests. The capstone course is Appellate Advocacy, in which students brief and argue a case currently pending before the United States Supreme Court. Professors in the program select a pending case based on their interest in the subject matter. 
 
Successful candidates will teach two sections of Legal Writing classes per semester in VLGS’s Online Hybrid Juris Doctor (OHJD) program. Sections typically have 20-25 students. 
 
In addition to teaching, successful candidates will collaborate with online and residential legal writing faculty and administrative staff to coordinate Department programs and initiatives. Under the leadership of the Director of Legal Writing, remote and residential legal writing faculty work closely to align the residential and online programs to meet common outcomes.

Job Title: Attorney Location: Concord, NH Salary Rate: $70,000 - $95,000. In business for over 40 years, my client is a well-respected firm in NH, specializing in a variety of practice areas. We are seeking an attorney with experience in legal writing to join our team. In this role, you will focus on drafting, editing, and refining a wide range of legal documents, including motions, briefs, memos, and client communications. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator with a deep understanding of legal research and the ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, concise writing. What You Will Do:
<ul>
<li>Draft high-quality legal documents, including pleadings, briefs, and memoranda, across various practice areas.</li>
<li>Edit and review legal documents for clarity, accuracy, and compliance with relevant legal standards and court rules.</li>
<li>Conduct thorough legal research to support written arguments and filings.</li>
<li>Collaborate with litigators, in-house counsel, or clients to refine messaging and strategy in written advocacy.</li>
<li>Develop templates and writing standards to ensure consistency and efficiency.</li>
<li>Provide writing support for client communications, policy documents, and internal guidance.</li>
</ul>
Skills &amp; Qualifications Required:
<ul>
<li>Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.</li>
<li>3+ years of legal writing experience, preferably in litigation or appellate work.</li>
<li>Exceptional written communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.</li>
<li>Strong legal research abilities and familiarity with tools such as Westlaw or LexisNexis.</li>
<li>Ability to synthesize complex legal issues into clear, persuasive narratives.</li>
<li>Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple writing projects simultaneously.</li>
<li>Prior experience with legal editing or teaching legal writing is a plus</li>
