Job DescriptionDUTIES:
Performs skilled repair and maintenance of any and all City of Somerville motor equipment including but not limited to DPW and Public Safety vehicles (Class 1, 2, &amp; 3 vehicles); inspects and troubleshoots gasoline and diesel internal combustion engine-powered vehicles and other powered related equipment. Have the ability to effectively use engine and related diagnostic equipment; perform air conditioning diagnosis and repair; repair electrical systems; adjusts or replaces carburetors; repair or replace drive-line components; repair or replace air and hydraulic brake systems / components. Removes and replaces clutches and transmissions; repair or replace suspension components; removes and disassembles diesel and gasoline engines; repairs electrical systems; installs and maintains all aftermarket upfitting assemblies; assists radio repairman with two-way mobile communications repairs; replaces faulty or worn parts; performs engine overhauls; performs body-work and related welding and metal working duties. QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Trade shop in auto repair.
Must have at least two (2) years working experience in the auto/truck repair industry. Knowledge of the tools, materials, techniques utilized in the repair of motor equipment.
Working knowledge of welding/brazing techniques, as well as torch use. Ability to use hand and power tools, the materials and equipment necessary for proper repair to motor equipment.
Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions related to motor equipment repair.
Ability to make simple estimates of materials required to perform repair to motor equipment in accordance with manufacturer's specifications or other established procedures.
Ability to read and interpret equipment repair manuals and diagrams, and to work from oral and/or written instructions.
Ability to climb and work from scaffolding or ladders or platforms at some distance above the ground.
Must be able to work in the public safety field / understand and follow rules of evidence and confidentiality that are essential in Police work.
Must be prepared to testify in court if the need arises.
Appointment to this position is subject to an appropriate background investigation to include a safe driving record.
Must be able to receive and interpret written and oral instructions from the fleet supervisor and I or his designee.
Must be able to submit written and oral reports of completed work and works in progress to these persons as requested.
Must possess a valid current Class B Massachusetts Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
Must pass a written and practical test.

Responsibilities 
<ul>
<li>Provide technical service to equipment.</li>
<li>Read job orders</li>
<li>Observe and listen to equipment in operation to resolve malfunction issues and execute work procedures effectively.</li>
<li>Follow checklists to ensure all critical parts are examined.</li>
<li>Examine protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices on trucks, and adjust as needed.</li>
<li>Test-drive vehicles to ensure that they run smoothly.</li>
<li>Tag all warranty parts and return them to the warranty clerk.</li>
<li>Attend training classes and keep tabs on factory technical bulletins.</li>
<li>Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers to increase overall customer happiness.</li>
<li>Properly complete the service and/or repairs assigned by the supervisor.</li>
<li>Complete all work according to the applicable safety requirements and published procedures.</li>
<li>Participate in, and utilize to the best of one's abilities, technical training as assigned by management.</li>
<li>Maintain your designated workspace in an organized and clean manner.</li>
<li>Ensure guest vehicles are returned as clean as they were before being serviced.</li>
<li>Show the utmost courtesy to all guests, visitors, and dealership personnel.</li>

About the Position of Automotive Mechanic
As Mavis's leaders in undercar repairs, our Automotive Mechanics are trusted to inspect, diagnose, and perform a wide variety of automotive services on customers' vehicles. Mavis's Automotive Mechanics perform a wide variety of undercar repairs, including brakes, struts, and shocks. Automotive Mechanics are also responsible for completing state-mandated inspections, changing oil and filters, checking fluids, replacing worn parts, and dismounting, mounting, rotating, and balancing tires.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the position of Automotive Mechanic, you must (1) be at least 18 years of age; (2) be legally authorized to work in the United States; (3) possess 2 years of experience and/or training in automotive repair and maintenance or any combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position; and (4) possess an extensive tool box of personal tools used in performing undercar repairs.
The following additional qualifications are preferred: (1) state inspection license(s); and (2) ASE Certifications in Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair (G1), Suspension and Steering (A4), and Brakes (A5).
As an active position, Automotive mechanics are required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, pull, reach and perform repeated and repetitive movements consistent with vehicle maintenance and automotive repair. Mechanics must regularly lift and/or move items weighing over 50 pounds.

United Construction &amp; Forestry is looking for a Service Technician. This individual will be responsible for repairing and maintaining electric, diesel, and gasoline industrial construction and forestry equipment.
 
What You’ll Do

<li>Follow all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments</li>
<li>Recondition and repair all engines, transmission, tractors and industrial equipment assigned by the shop supervisor</li>
<li>Diagnose problems and determine what repairs are needed</li>
<li>Keep records required to establish cost of parts and service charges to the customer</li>
<li>Handle customer problems both objectively and tactfully</li>
<li>Assist in directing work of helpers or on the job trainees and provide instructions as required</li>
