Duties and Responsibilities:

Job DescriptionDescription&nbsp;Title: Lifeguard IPosition Type: Non-Exempt (Hourly)&nbsp; Position Summary: &nbsp;Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director, this position is responsible for guarding the pool, ensuring the safety of all patrons, enforcing pool rules, and implementing the branch emergency protocols as needed. &nbsp; Key ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES:

<li>Prevent emergencies by scanning the pool in a continuous and consistent manner.</li>
<li>Recognize emergencies or potential incidents and address them immediately</li>
<li>Know and activate the branch and pool EAP when needed.</li>
<li>Perform assists or rescues as needed</li>
<li>Provide care such as, CPR, First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen as needed.</li>
<li>Complete incident reports in a timely and effective manner</li>
<li>Enforce pool rules. Handle issues as they arise in a professional manner.</li>
<li>Ensure a clean and safe pool environment at all times.</li>
<li>When off the stand, assist with cleaning and testing of the pool.</li>
<li>Maintain a clear and consistent line of communication with all supervisors.</li>
<li>Participate in all branch safety and quality drills</li>
<li>Attend all required monthly and yearly in-service trainings</li>
<li>Arrive 10 minutes prior to start of scheduled shift.</li>
<li>Make sure all doors are securely locked when a lifeguard is not on duty. Never leave the pool unattended.</li>
<li>All change in hours will be in writing and signed by consenting parties. You are responsible for finding your own coverage.</li>
<li>Engage in active listening with members in order to build relationships, understand each individual’s goals and interests and take the initiative to assist in the achievement of those goals.</li>
<li>Maintain a professional image and manner consistent with the YMCA mission and goals at all times.</li>

Job Description
The Karishim Swim Club at the JCC Greater Boston in Newton, MA, is seeking a Swim Coach (KASC). The Aquatics Department is a friendly, high-performing team inspired to use its knowledge and passion to help athletes grow in and out of the pool. Swim coaches work with enthusiastic families and colleagues as they develop their teams. 
This is a part-time non-exempt position with 20+ hours a week, including weekend meets. Offering some great benefits and a competitive pay rate of $25-$30 per hour. The pay rate offered will ultimately be determined by relevant qualifications and experience, and internal equity. If you are an experienced Swim Coach looking for a new challenge, apply today!
Responsibilities include and are not limited to:

<li>Prepare practices on a weekly basis based on the phase of training and swimmers’ needs/ability, maintaining a focus on technique, skill development, and athlete development</li>
<li>Create recruitment, retention, and athletic development plans for new athletes. </li>
<li>Work closely with the Aquatics Staff and other coaches to promote the club as a whole.</li>
<li>Participate in weekend swim meets, as required</li>
<li>Attend all coach’s meetings (approximately 4–5/year)</li>
<li>Help determine swimmers’ events for meet entries</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Develop the roles and responsibilities of parents, swimmers, and coaches, as well as individual athletic plans. Communicate openly with parents to ensure education and communication on all aspects of long-term athletic development.</li>
<li>Teach supplemental private lessons to swim team members </li>
<li>Other duties, as needed</li>

Requirements
Education and Experience:

<li>Current/valid American Red Cross Lifeguard certification, with CPR, AED and First Aid.</li>
<li>USA Swimming Coaches Certification or ability to obtain coaches certification within the first 14 days of hire </li>

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria.
Skills and Abilities:

<li>Has stroke and skill techniques as well as dryland training/technique</li>
<li>Has coaching experience with athletes of all ages, including the development of season/workout plans</li>

<li>Demonstrates an ability to communicate with community members and coworkers in person effectively, over email, and on the phone</li>
