Position Overview
The Sharon Academy High School is seeking a dedicated and collaborative Paraeducator: High School Classroom Assistant and Executive Functioning Coach to support students’ academic, organizational, and social-emotional success. This role includes direct support for students receiving special education services, including those with IEPs and 504 plans, as well as general academic assistance across subject areas.
Responsibilities
Classroom & Academic Support
- Provide in-class support across humanities, literature, science, and world language courses.
- Offer individualized (1:1) academic assistance and clarification of curriculum content.
- Check for student understanding and help them break down and complete assignments.
- Adapt support based on students’ evolving academic and developmental needs.
- Support implementation of accommodations and modifications outlined in students’ IEPs and 504 Plans.
Executive Functioning Coaching
- Lead or assist with morning executive functioning group sessions.
- Coach students in organization, planning, time management, task initiation, self-advocacy, and study strategies.
- Help students develop routines and systems to promote independence and academic success.
Special Education & Student Support Collaboration
- Participate in IEP meetings, 504 meetings, and Student Support Team discussions as needed.
Document and communicate observations regarding student progress and support needs. - Work closely with the Academic & Student Support Team to implement individualized strategies and interventions.
Communication
- Maintain regular communication with:
- Classroom teachers
- Parents/guardians
Academic & Student Support Team members
- Participate in scheduled in-person meetings and maintain timely, professional email correspondence.
Qualifications
- Values inclusive education and student-centered support.
- Is flexible, proactive, and skilled at building positive rapport with high school students.
- Understands or is eager to learn about executive functioning skills and special education practices.
