SUMMARY:
Provides pharmaceutical services to long-term care and institutionalized patients in a manner that maximizes quality and patient safety. Participates in and oversees the dispensing of medication in accordance with federal and state regulations.
Requirements:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Prepares medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders and detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.
· Dispenses medications by compounding, packaging and labeling pharmaceuticals.
· Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians’ work flow; verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying order entries, charges and inspections.
· Act as a liaison between the pharmacy and healthcare professionals, patients and law enforcement.
· Complies with State and Federal drug laws as regulated by the New Hampshire State Board of Pharmacy, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Food and Drug Administration by maintaining records for controlled substances; removing outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory; supervising the work results of support personnel, maintaining current registration; studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation and advising management on needed actions.
· Abide by the HIPAA policies and procedures set forth by Northeast Pharmacy Services as well as current regulations governing privacy issues.
· Obtains as necessary and maintains all required documentation in accordance with federal and state regulatory agencies.
· Maintains customer database to include appropriate current and past medical history.
· Maintain familiarization and adhere to the Company’s employee handbook
· Participate in surveys conducted by authorized inspection agencies.
· Maintains pharmacological knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies.
· Perform other related duties as assigned by the President.
REQUISITE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy, Pharm D from an accredited school of pharmacy is required as well as a valid New Hampshire Pharmacist License in good standing.
Authorization to fill Medicare and Medicaid prescriptions.
Complete knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to pharmacy practices.
Motivated and caring professional with strong interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability and desire to communicate effectively with customers, associates, other health care professionals, and the community at large.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule consistent with a retail environment.
Ability to handle multiple priorities and provide direction to associates.
High levels of integrity, professionalism and confidentiality.
