Med Surg / Tele RN – Adaptive Acuity Unit | Vermont
Unit Type: Adaptive Acuity (Med Surg/Tele with PCU-level care)
Bed Count: 25 beds
Patient Ratio:
- 1:5 for Med Surg/Tele
- 3:1 when providing PCU-level care
Floating: To any inpatient unit within RN scope
Local Radius Rule: Must live >50 miles from facility
Shift: Standard inpatient shifts (details provided at interview)
Position Overview
This is an Adaptive Acuity Unit, meaning the nurse will care for both standard Med Surg/Tele patients and, on occasion, PCU-level patients. Providing PCU-level care is mandatory and cannot be declined. Strong drip, charge, and progressive care skills are required.
This role is best suited for a highly experienced RN who is confident with higher-acuity patients, adaptable to frequent floating, and comfortable supporting smaller or critical-access hospitals.
Required Experience
- 2+ years CURRENT Med Surg/Tele experience
- Charge experience required
- PCU experience strongly required
- Drip experience required (vasoactive & titratable drips)
- ICU experience strongly preferred
- Minimum 3 months of prior travel experience (non-negotiable)
- Critical access or small hospital experience preferred
- Must have reliable personal vehicle
- Must include permanent address in profile
Certifications Required
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS (AHA)
Unit Expectations
- Provide Med Surg/Tele + PCU-level care as needed
- Perform as Charge RN during assignments
- Float to any inpatient unit within scope
- Work every other weekend and holidays as needed
- Must handle common higher-acuity conditions including:
- Sepsis
- DKA
- Pneumonia
- ARDS
- Post-vascular procedures
- Standard PCU/ICU titratable drips
