Job Description
Position SummaryThe Medical Assistant plays a vital role in delivering high-quality care by supporting physicians, nurses, and other clinical staff. This position is responsible for both administrative and clinical duties, including patient interaction, documentation, basic procedures, and ensuring smooth day-to-day operations within the healthcare facility.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Duties:

  • Prepare patients for examinations and procedures by taking vital signs, recording medical histories, and ensuring patient comfort.
  • Assist healthcare providers during exams and minor procedures.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens (e.g., blood, urine) and perform basic lab tests as authorized.
  • Administer injections, immunizations, or medications under provider direction.
  • Conduct EKGs, wound care, and other approved clinical tasks based on certification and scope of practice.
  • Sterilize instruments and maintain exam rooms in clean, organized condition.


Administrative Duties:

  • Schedule appointments and manage patient flow.
  • Greet patients, verify insurance, and handle check-in/check-out processes.
  • Update and maintain electronic medical records (EMR) with accurate documentation.
  • Handle phone inquiries, prescription refills, and prior authorizations under supervision.
  • Coordinate referrals and follow-up appointments as directed.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Current certification or registration (e.g., CMA, RMA, CCMA) preferred or required depending on the employer
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR certification


Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and clinical procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR/EMR) systems
  • Compassionate and patient-focused attitude
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in a clinical or ambulatory care setting
  • Experience working with a variety of patient populations and age groups
  • Bilingual skills (a plus depending on patient population)


Education: High School

Certification: Basic Life Support
