Eye Health Vision Centers have been proudly providing the Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Fall River, Taunton MA and Middletown RI communities with advanced technology and eye care services for over four decades.
As our Scribe you will perform a range of duties which includes preparing the patient to see Attending Physician (preliminary exam, medical history, & testing), preparation of examination and treatment rooms, performing basic and routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, cleaning and maintaining ophthalmic instruments and assisting physicians during minor surgical and laser procedures.
Requirements
- Accompany the physician into the exam room to transcribe the history and examination as given by the patient and the physician.
- Anticipate physicians’ needs and respond to requests for instruments, supplies, and equipment during patient care session.
- Under the direction of the physician, transcribe the impression and plan, results of tests, prescriptions, and orders.
- Document any procedures that may be performed by the physician or ophthalmic medical personnel.
- Document all diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and discharge and follow-up information.
- Transcribe any consultations or discussions with family members.
- Enter data into electronic medical record database.
- Perform testing an evaluation to prepare the patient for doctor’s exam including visual acuity, color vision testing, keratometry, tonometry, both Goldmann and non-contact, lensometry, retinoscopy, exophthalmometry, Amsler grid, Schirmer test, pupil evaluation, anterior depth assessment, etc.
- Administer eye medications
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
- Maintain an environment conducive to the delivery of efficient, quality eye care.
- Assist with patient care, as directed by the physician.
- Demonstrate flexibility with job assignments.
- Perform general duties and other functions as required or assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy and physiology, diseases, treatments, and surgeries.
- Proficiency with medical terminology, abbreviations, and acronyms and working with EMR.
- Knowledge of medical instrumentation and its proper care and use.
- Expertise in charting.
- Ability to deliver exceptional patient care with a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and legibility.
- Able to work well with a large team.
- Basic computer skills and knowledge.
- Team oriented with a proven ability to establish strong working relationships across the organization.
- Ethical and discrete to protect privacy of patient information.
- Prior scribing preferred.
- Must possess the physical, mental, and cognitive skills needed to complete essential tasks, including abilities such as learning, remembering, focusing, categorizing, and integrating information for comprehension, problem-solving, and timely decision-making.
- Must be able to drive/work at other locations if needed for coverage.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ophthalmic Scribe Certification (OSC) preferred.
- Experience as Ophthalmic Tech or Medical Assistant.
- Experience in healthcare field preferred.
- On the job training provided.
Physical Requirements:
- Sitting, Standing, Bending, Reaching, Stooping, Walking and Lifting
- Ability to see, hear, and speak with sufficient capability to perform assigned tasks
- Driving independently to other facilities
Working Conditions:
- Travel to other locations is necessary.
- Occupational Exposure - Category Ill exposure to blood-borne pathogens and may encounter chemical hazards.
