The Camp Counselor is responsible for the supervision, well-being and engagement of campers while providing a safe, fun filled and enjoyable overnight camping experience. The camp counselor will role model and encourage collaboration, respect, honesty, and responsibility among campers. The Camp Counselor will work a rotating shift that includes being on-site during day and overnight hours for the operating weeks of summer camp and for the week prior to camp opening.

REPORTS TO

The Camp Counselor reports to the Sumer Camp Manager or designee

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Always maintain professional boundaries. Present self in mature and responsible manner
  • Plan and lead daily activities, lend leadership and guidance to a group of approximately10 campers. Always ensure appropriate ratios.
  • Ensure a fun and safe environment at camp and on off-site field trips.
  • Assist with overseeing campers during pool and beach time ensuring a safety at all times.
  • Promote and support peer to peer connections, problem solving and group concerns as they arise.
  • Supervision of campers throughout the day including waking up, camp activities, mealtime, getting ready for bedtime, overnights and after-hours duties as assigned.
  • Ensure camp policies/procedures are followed. Provide positive feedback, praise/discipline as appropriate and in accordance with camp policies, regulations and procedures.
  • Ensure camp health and safety rules are being followed and report inappropriate behaviors in a timely manner in accordance with camp regulations follow mandated reporting requirements related to abuse or neglect of campers.
  • Perform general housekeeping tasks an maintain a clean and safe camp area.
  • Work is performed in and outdoors at an overnight camp environment with children and adults. May be exposed to high degree of temperatures without air-conditioning. Daily exposure to sun and outdoor elements. Standing, stretching, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying to 20 pounds.
  • Attend daily meetings
  • Attend necessary in-service trainings.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be 18 years of age, high school senior or college experience preferred. Certification of good health from a physician.
  • Experience working with latency age youth
  • Able to perform work in seasonal summer climate that includes high degree of temperatures without air conditioning. Ability to stand and move about for long periods of time. Ability to see, hear, read and write
  • Certified in First Aid/CPR/AED by a nationally recognized organization
  • Good interpersonal communication skills. Ability to see,read, write,speak and hear.
  • Team approach with the ability to provide positive leadership to others.
  • Ability to effectively perform multiple tasks at a time
  • Strong creative skills to ensure meaningful experiences for campers
  • Ability to be consistent and present while engaging with campers
  • Ability to be culturally humble and work with diverse backgrounds
  • Flexible and good natured ,patience working with others.

The base pay range reflects what Catholic Charities reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this role at the time of posting and may be modified from time to time. Actual compensation in this range may be determined based on other factors, including but not limited to work experience, education and specialty training.
