Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

An opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support a high school environment in Merrimack, NH. This contract position spans the full school year and involves facilitating clear and effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret spoken English into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events.
  • Provide accurate and professional communication support to ensure equal access to educational content.
  • Collaborate with educators and support staff to tailor interpretation services according to individual student needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions.
  • Assist in extracurricular activities as needed to support student participation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with certification or proven experience in sign language interpretation.
  • Experience working in an educational setting, preferably with high school students.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
  • Knowledge of deaf culture and educational practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple communication needs in fast-paced environments.

Location: Merrimack, New Hampshire
Contract Duration: Full school year (NSY)
