Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Phlebotomist II to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in performing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging, recording maintenance data, decontaminating, and updating patient information. You will be responsible for collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, providing clear explanations of specimen collection processes, and demonstrating proper techniques using straight or butterfly needles.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Clearly explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Understand and follow all physicians' orders.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
  • Ensure 100% accuracy by checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.
  • Package specimens for transport, maintaining the integrity of the specimen.
  • Store specimen samples at required temperatures and in appropriate containers.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in phlebotomy and specimen collection.
  • Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED with 2 years of relevant experience.

Work Environment

This position offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced outpatient lab within a major Boston hospital. Full training will be provided by onsite staff. The work is conducted in a lab environment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $25.00/hr.
