Assistant Maintenance Manager
Rosie’s Place was founded in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the United States. Our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment to help poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunities, and find security in their lives.
Over the years, we have become much more than a shelter. We are a multi-service community center that not only provides meals and shelter but also creates answers for thousands of women a year through wide-ranging support, housing, and education services. Rosie’s Place relies on the generous support of individuals, foundations, and corporations and does not accept any city, state or federal funding.
OPPPORTUNITY
The Assistant Maintenance Manager helps to ensure a safe and secure property by coordinating all aspects of the overall cleaning, maintenance and upkeep of the physical locations and assets of Rosie’s Place. They supervise a team of Facilities Associates and are responsible for creating and overseeing the work schedule and task assignments to team members. Reporting to the Director of Facilities, they ensure that all work is done in line with the core values and mission of Rosie’s Place.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee, supervise, and evaluate department staff with the support of the Director of Facilities. This includes providing regular, formal individual supervision in line with Rosie’s Place procedures and partnering with the Director to lead team meetings.
- Perform hands-on work as needed, including cleaning, filling in when staff are out, and overseeing daily cleaning and deep-cleaning of all Rosie’s Place locations.
- Perform and oversee essential repairs, routine maintenance, and minor facility projects.
- Create a daily staffing schedule, ensuring proper coverage of all facilities tasks.
- Manage and assign work orders for maintenance requests to be addressed in a timely manner.
- Perform quality checks of physical plant and completed work by Facilities team.
- Coordinate deliveries, including receiving, moving, storage and inventory of materials and supplies.
- Schedule fill-in staff and manage and train as needed.
- Maintain outdoor grounds to ensure a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment.
- Support the Director of Facilities with creating program goals, quarterly reports, budget reports and other documentation.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the Director of Facilities.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2-4 years professional cleaning or maintenance experience required.
- Demonstrated ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs, with a willingness to expand skills and take on new tasks.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Valid Massachusetts driver’s license and safe driving record required.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English preferred.
- Ability to lift (up to 50lbs), reach, bend and stoop.
- Excellent organizational skills, significant attention to detail and follow-through, ability to work on multiple tasks in a growing and changing environment.
- Ability to welcome, train, motivate and manage a diversity of people from various backgrounds.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement and think quickly on your feet.
- Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work well and effectively communicate with other department employees and vendors.
- Strong customer service mindset with effective and diplomatic, yet supportive communication style.
- Strong commitment to social justice and the mission of Rosie’s Place.
- Dependable, flexible and able to work effectively in a collaborative and busy department.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The starting salary range for this position is $55,000-$70,000 with a robust benefits package. Rosie’s Place offers medical and dental insurance, 403b retirement plan, pension contributions, paid vacation, and more.

Sat/Sun 9-5
Monday- Wed, 9-5
Flexibility preferred (occasionally come in early or stay late)

WORK EXPECTATIONS AT ROSIE’S PLACE
We are a hands-on team and seek employees who are passionate about our work and service to our community. The Assistant Manager of Facilities is expected to work onsite at Rosie’s Place during their work week and engage regularly with staff, guests, and volunteers.
