Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A contract position is available for a Sign Language Interpreter to support educational settings in Derry, NH. This role involves facilitating communication for deaf and hard-of-hearing students, ensuring they have access to the curriculum and participate fully in classroom activities.
Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classroom instruction and school activities.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to provide effective communication support.
- Assist students in understanding instructional content and social interactions.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethical standards.
- Support individual education plans (IEPs) related to communication needs.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language with strong interpreting skills.
- Experience working in educational environments is preferred.
- Understanding of deaf culture and educational challenges faced by deaf/hard-of-hearing students.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a school setting.
