Position Summary
Boston Ship Repair is seeking skilled Outside Machinists to perform repair, maintenance, and overhaul work on a wide range of shipboard machinery. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-profile vessels in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, align, and repair pumps, motors, generators, propellers, shafting, bearings, compressors, and hydraulic units.
  • Operate and maintain hydraulic equipment; troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems.
  • Use torque wrenches (metric and standard) to achieve precise tolerances.
  • Conduct dock and sea trials to verify machinery performance after repair.
  • Perform alignments using dial indicators, micrometers, and other precision tools.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, job specifications, and manuals.
  • Set up and operate portable machine tools such as boring bars, drills, and grinders.
  • Work safely in all environments, including confined spaces and at heights.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of marine, industrial, or shipyard mechanic experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems and torque wrench applications.
  • Skilled with hand tools, measuring instruments, and alignment equipment.
  • Ability to work from technical drawings and follow detailed instructions.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Shipboard and shipyard conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, noise, and moving machinery.
  • Requires standing, climbing, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs daily.
