POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Think Tank is a woman-owned small business with more than 27 years of proven success delivering exceptional marine and fisheries services to the federal government. We are currently seeking an ideal candidate for the position of Survey Technician to support an upcoming proposal with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Résumé of successful candidate(s) will be included with our proposal.

The Survey Technician plays a vital role in the collection, processing, and documentation of biological and environmental data during aerial, shipboard, and alternative platform surveys. This position supports the full survey lifecycle-from preparation and execution to data QA/QC and reporting.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the setup, calibration, operation, and maintenance of survey equipment, including acoustic instruments, oceanographic sensors, and biological sampling gear.
  • Collect, record, and process observational data on marine mammals, sea turtles, seabirds, and other protected species.
  • Take quality photographs using handheld, mounted, or drone-based cameras for species ID and photogrammetry.
  • Assist in biological sample handling and preservation following established protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with field safety and data collection procedures.
  • Participate in vessel or aircraft-based surveys and field operations, including travel.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in marine science or related field.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and data entry tools; familiarity with GPS, GIS, and data logging devices.
  • Ability to work outdoors in variable conditions for extended periods and travel as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and communication skills
  • Level 1: More than 75 hours of aerial survey experience
  • Level 2: More than 350 hours of aerial survey experience
  • Level 3: More than 450 hours of aerial survey experience
