POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Think Tank is a woman-owned small business with more than 27 years of proven success delivering exceptional marine and fisheries services to the federal government. We are currently seeking an ideal candidate for the position of Small Boat Operator to support an upcoming proposal with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Résumé of successful candidate(s) will be included with our proposal.
The Small Boat Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining NOAA small boats in support of marine research missions. This position involves transporting personnel, deploying equipment, and ensuring safety during nearshore and offshore operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate and navigate NOAA small boats during surveys, tagging efforts, and deployment missions.
- Launch, recover, and trailer vessels; conduct routine safety checks and minor maintenance.
- Transport scientific crew and equipment safely in diverse marine conditions.
- Assist in over-the-side deployments of gear such as acoustic devices and tags.
- Maintain safety compliance with NOAA regulations and support emergency readiness.
REQUIREMENTS:
- USCG license or equivalent NOAA Small Boat Certification.
- At least 200 hours of small boat operation experience.
- Experience operating small vessels in nearshore and offshore environments.
- Knowledge of basic marine engine maintenance and vessel handling.
- Familiarity with navigation systems (GPS, radar) and maritime safety practices.
- Ability to work long days in field settings and assist with logistical support and equipment handling.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities and flexible, as needed work requirements
