Phillips Academy seeks an Assistant Coach for the varsity football program for Fall 2025.
Working alongside the head varsity football coach, primary responsibility includes serving as the Assistant Football Coach for Linebackers or Defensive Linemen. In this role, the Assistant Coach is responsible for developing the skills, discipline, and character of student-athletes while supporting the goals and philosophy of the Andover football program as well as the mission of Phillips Academy. This position focuses on the technical and tactical development of the linebacker or defensive line unit within the team’s defensive scheme.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and conduct position-specific practices and drills for linebackers or defensive linemen.
- Teach proper techniques, alignments, assignments, and responsibilities within the defensive system.
- Assist in game planning, film breakdown, and scouting reports relevant to the defensive front or linebacker group.
- Provide consistent feedback and instruction during practices, games, and film review sessions.
- Mentor student-athletes on and off the field, promoting academic success, sportsmanship, and leadership.
- Collaborate with the defensive coordinator and other staff to adjust strategies based on opponent tendencies and in-game situations.
- Participate in offseason strength and conditioning programs and team events.
- Ensure player safety by teaching proper tackling techniques and enforcing safety protocols.
- Attend all scheduled practices, team meetings, and coaching clinics as required.
Qualifications:
- Previous playing and/or coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, or professional level (linebackers or defensive line preferred).
- Strong knowledge of defensive football concepts, terminology, and strategies.
- Ability to communicate effectively and positively with student-athletes, staff, and parents.
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience using Hudl or similar video analysis tools.
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
• Ability to positively motivate, inspire and be role model to students.
• Be adaptable and enjoy working alongside the current coaching staff
Season Schedule:
Dates: August 20th through mid-November. Preseason practices begin on Saturday, August 30
Time frame:
Post-Labor Day weekend (special preseason schedule), Monday. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday practice ~3:15pm-6:15pm, Wednesday ~2:30 pm – 5:30 pm.
Saturday game days, home and away, starting in the first weekend of September
