Job Title: Histotechnologist
Specialty: Histology / Cytology
Site: VA White River Junction
Location: 163 Veterans Drive, White River Junction, VT 05009
Duration: 1 year contract

Shift Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (may require occasional weekends, holidays, and overtime; no on-call duties)

License / Certifications:

  • ASCP (HTL) Histotechnologist Certification (Required)
  • BLS Certification (Preferred, not mandatory)

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences, Medical Laboratory Technology, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related field (Required)
  • Master’s degree in related field (Preferred but not required)

Minimum Qualification/ Experience:

  • 3 years of recent histology and cytology experience (Required)

Responsibilities:

  • Perform grossing, accessioning, embedding, cutting, staining, and cover-slipping of tissue specimens.
  • Prepare special stains as requested by pathologists.
  • Assist with frozen sections, surgical specimens, and autopsies.
  • Maintain specimen integrity, control processing conditions, and ensure timely preparation.
  • Serve as back-up morgue assistant when required.
  • Ensure accurate patient/sample identification and safeguard patient information.
  • Document and resolve specimen processing, testing, and reporting issues.
  • Support quality assurance, compliance, and patient-centered care
