SCOPE OF WORK: Performs skilled work in the routine, general, and preventative custodial, grounds, and/or building maintenance and assists in coordinating the work activities of staff engaged in performing similar duties. Reports to the College Facilities Manager at River Valley Community College.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Performs grounds maintenance including landscaping, lawn maintenance, snow removal, and sanding, utilizing small and large equipment.
  • Performs general building maintenance and repairs including light carpentry, painting and basic electrical, plumbing, and HVAC tasks, as directed.
  • Completes work requests and custodial duties, as required.
  • Operates and maintains building service equipment including hand tools, power tools, lawn mowers, snow removal equipment, etc.
  • Moves furniture and equipment, delivers supplies and completes errands, as assigned.
  • Participates in building and room set-up to accommodate functions and activities of students and guests.
  • Under the direction of the College Facilities Manager, assists in the operations of the physical plant and grounds including routine and preventative maintenance, custodial functions, repairs, renovations, and special projects of the Claremont campus, Keene, and Lebanon Academic Centers.
  • Under the direction of the College Facilities Manager, assists in the coordination of contracted services for maintaining and repairing facilities and grounds.
  • Follows sound safety practices and reports safety concerns to management and Campus Safety.
  • Complies with all college, system, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency.

Experience: Two years' experience in custodial, grounds-keeping, or light maintenance work with equipment operation and maintenance and some supervisory or project coordination experience. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required education.

License/Certification: Valid driver’s license.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of the methods and tools used in maintenance and repair work. Working knowledge of one or more of the building trades. Working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Knowledge of groundskeeping and simple practices relating to the care of grounds. Ability to use the tools and equipment of the trade. Ability to maintain and make ordinary repairs to machinery and equipment. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with immediate associates. Ability to direct, train, and monitor the work of other staff. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
