Job Description

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, diagnosing, and restoring medium and heavy maintenance and construction equipment, including vehicles over 15,000 GVW, power generation equipment, and related machinery. Work is performed outdoors. This position ensures equipment safety, reliability, and compliance with all applicable regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, diagnose, maintain, and repair heavy equipment such as dump trucks, graders, backhoes, dozers, front-end loaders, etc

  • Perform mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical system troubleshooting and repairs, including on diesel and compressed natural gas engines

  • Conduct preventative maintenance, safety inspections, and required documentation.

  • Utilize digital and electronic diagnostic tools to identify and resolve equipment issues

  • Adhere to federal, state, and local safety regulations, including DOT and OSHA standards

  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, parts used, and equipment status.

  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors; may provide guidance to less experienced staff

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills:

  • Four years of progressively responsible mechanical experience as a journeyman mechanic, or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • High school diploma or GED preferred; graduation from a formal mechanical trade school highly desirable

  • Valid driver's license

  • Expert knowledge of diesel engines, heavy equipment components, and fabrication techniques

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and safety instructions.

  • Knowledge of job site health and safety rules and best practices

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, sometimes in adverse environmental conditions.

Salary Range - $90,000 - $130,000

May include overtime pay, shift differentials, or performance bonuses, depending on assignment and company policy
