Ranor, Inc. is a large-scale fabrication and machining supplier specializing in defense-related manufacturing, with a primary focus on components supporting U.S. Navy submarine programs.
\n
Welding operations at Ranor encompass a wide range of materials and an expanding portfolio of welding processes. The Welding Engineer supports all aspects of welding activities and is responsible for maintaining and advancing Ranor’s welding program. This role includes developing, qualifying, and revising Welding Procedure Specifications (WPSs) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs) in accordance with applicable codes and contractual requirements.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop, evaluate, and implement appropriate welding techniques and procedures for a variety of applications and material systems.
- Plan, support, and execute welding procedure qualifications and welder performance qualifications in compliance with NAVSEA and other applicable codes and contract requirements.
- Participate in administrative, production, and cross-functional meetings to support engineering, manufacturing, and program objectives.
- Support welding activities in a manufacturing environment utilizing GTAW, GMAW, SMAW, SAW, and FCAW to produce high-quality structural and seal welds.
- Review welding specifications and ensure strict adherence to fabrication and welding standards.
- Communicate technical requirements and findings through clear written documentation and verbal discussions.
- Provide technical guidance and support to skilled trades personnel and production teams.
- Maintain company welding standards, procedures, and best practices, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, NDT, Quality Assurance, and management to resolve welding and fabrication challenges.
- Proactively identify and resolve welding and material joining issues during pre-production and manufacturing.

Qualifications
\n
Required
\n

- Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Welding Engineering Technology, Metallurgy, or Materials Science from an accredited institution.
- A combination of a two-year degree and a minimum of 15 years of relevant hands-on experience will be considered.
- U.S. citizenship is required.

Preferred

- Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Familiarity with NAVSEA welding procedure and performance qualification requirements, including S9074-AQ-GIB-010/248 or similar specifications.
- Familiarity with NAVSEA requirements for fabrication, welding, and inspection of submarine structures (T9074-AD-GIB-010/1688).
- Familiarity with NDT procedure qualification requirements (T9074-AS-GIB-010/271).
- Strong working knowledge of arc welding processes, including FCAW, GMAW, GTAW, SAW, and SMAW.
- Experience welding a broad range of materials, including carbon steel, stainless steels, low- and high-alloy steels, nickel alloys, and dissimilar metals.
- Solid understanding of welding metallurgy principles.
- Experience in industrial welding environments such as shipbuilding or heavy fabrication.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
