Position Overview
Reporting to the Head Pharmacist, the Infusion Pharmacist plays a vital role in preparing and dispensing intravenous (IV) medications. This role involves ensuring the highest standards of safety, compliance, and quality in the compounding of IV pharmaceuticals while working collaboratively with healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.

Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary: $62,000 – $65,000 USD/Annually

- Maintain accurate and complete documentation for the dispensing and compounding of IV medications.
- Ensure records comply with regulatory standards and organizational policies.
- Conduct QA testing for calculations, compounding medication appearance, and sterility.
- Ensure all compounded medications meet the highest quality and safety standards.
- Ensure strict adherence to proper handwashing, gloving, gowning, and aseptic techniques by all personnel working in the sterile clean room.
- Monitor and enforce compliance with aseptic protocols.
- Provide oversight and guidance to all technicians in compounding areas to ensure adherence to established protocols.
- Regularly review calculations of compounded medication orders for accuracy.
- Demonstrate and educate staff on proper adherence to USP 795, 797, and 800 standards for sterile and non-sterile compounding.
- Stay up-to-date with new rules and regulations regarding sterile and non-sterile compounding.
- Conduct training sessions for staff as necessary to ensure compliance with new standards.
- Oversee and perform proper storage and security procedures for all medications.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant guidelines and protocols.
- Cross-train with staff pharmacists to ensure a comprehensive understanding of all pharmacy operations.
- Provide support and assistance to staff pharmacists as needed.

The regular work schedule for this position is approximately 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday) and may require additional hours/overtime as necessary. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception, Ability to adjust focus and Ability to match or detect differences between colors, including shades of color and brightness. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, bend, and walk.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Doctorate of Pharmacy
- Active State Pharmacist license and State license to handle medication
- 2–4 years of IV pharmaceutical experience, or an equivalent mix of education and experience
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of USP 795, 797, and 800 standards
- Certification for Sterile Compounding from the Board of Pharmacy is preferred
Computer Skills
- Intermediate proficiency with Pharmacy and medication distribution software (e.g., Pyxis Medbank, Frameworks)
- Experience with long-term care pharmacy software preferred
Language Skills
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as medication documentation, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and business correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively, both in person and by telephone, to customers or employees of the organization
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
- Ability to understand and interpret statistical reports, data charts, and graphs
Compensation
The published salary range is used as a guide to provide prospective candidates with a level of compensation that is competitive with today’s market. The salary range for this position is a good faith estimate that allows for flexibility to align with various levels of experience, education, and performance.
