Mold Process Technologist -- Tooling & Cavitation Optimization
Job Description
Job DescriptionPicture this
You step onto the floor, review overnight data, and notice a drift in cycle time on a multi-cavity tool. You confer with the supervisor, loop in maintenance, and tweak parameters to restore balance across cavities. By midday, a new tool arrives—you run the startup, capture the setup in a crisp process sheet, and coordinate preventive actions that keep the tool running at its best. Along the way, you share insights with action teams to seed the next round of improvements.
Core responsibilities
- Partner with mold supervisors, maintenance, and technicians to troubleshoot and resolve product processing issues.
- Own preventive maintenance initiatives for tooling to minimize unplanned downtime.
- Engage external vendors and experts to refine tooling-related processing techniques.
- Continuously review injection molding processes to identify and execute optimizations.
- Standardize and document optimized processes for repeatable results.
- Maintain cavitation by controlling process variables and monitoring performance.
- Support action teams, fostering continuous improvement across the technical group.
- Start up new tools, then document and develop detailed process sheets.
- Complete all safety and operator training as required.
- Take on additional tasks as assigned, including overtime or weekend coverage when needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical school exposure preferred.
- Working knowledge of injection molding equipment, materials, and processes.
- Ability to walk, bend, climb stairs and ladders, and lift up to 50 pounds.
- Safety-first mindset and a drive for continuous learning.
- Willingness to work overtime and provide weekend coverage based on demand.
- Competence in plastic extrusion, injection molding, blow molding, tool/die/mold setup, and blueprint reading.
