YPP College Math Literacy Worker

Relevance of the Position:

The purpose of a College Math Literacy Worker (MLW) is to guide and mentor a team of High School Math Literacy Workers through ongoing support, math and advocacy workshops, planning, and debrief sessions that will help them in their personal and professional development as learners, teachers, leaders, and organizers.


Time Commitment (Summer + School year):

  • 40 hours of training

  • 15 + hours per week of programming in the school year

  • 25 + hours per week of programming in the summer

Compensation

  • $17 / hour

  • Payments every two weeks, from The Young People's Project Inc.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Understand and be able to articulate YPP Mission, History, and Purpose of Math Literacy work
  • Mastery of the Curriculum
  • Ensuring the lesson is prepared and mocked
  • Ensuring Students are learning and mastering the materials
  • Meeting with other staff to coordinate the flow of the day, lesson plan, turn in lesson plans on time to get feedback and make adjustments before any outreach
  • Documenting where students need help and which skills need work
  • Have continued and timely communication with other instructors and Coordinator
  • Take notes during sessions in order to inform skill building and development of program and MLWs
  • Conduct and document one-on-ones and make that information available to Director
  • Foster an effective relationship with MLWs
  • Ensure that attendance and other data collection is tracked and documented constantly and regularly

Skills and Abilities

  • Proven ability to work well with people, especially young people (high school and college age peers)
  • Good listening, written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizing skills
  • Sound math background preferred, willingness to improve math background required
  • Computer literate and familiar with the use of technology to promote program growth
  • Baseline mastery of at least Algebra 1 preferred.
