THE OPPORTUNITY

The Process Engineer works in Manufacturing Operations for our Optics group. This motivated and passionate individual will support a manufacturing team by assuring that all legacy and new thin film coated and other optical products have all required tooling, engineering, and quality processes designed, established, and released for production.This is a hands-on manufacturing position.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

People:

  • Maintain constructive and collaborative relationships with third party partners and suppliers.
  • Work directly with Customers to support product development and build-to-print manufacturing.
  • Work closely with the Customer and Quality staff on problem solving activities related to process improvement and reliability.
  • Work closely with the Galvion R&D team in the development, processing, and characterization of materials and manufacturing requirements.
  • Design testing equipment, fixtures, and methodologies to manufacture, coat and test optical assemblies.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to the manufacturing team and QC staff.



Process:

  • Oversee custom thin film, PVD, products, and subassemblies. This includes providing guidance for the coating stacks (PVD & wet coatings), and processes for all supporting steps including injection molding, machining, and assembly.
  • Develop workflow and work instructions for production and assembly of precision optics (light filtering, not lenses).
  • Develop quality test plans for precision thin film coated optical parts and assemblies to efficiently meet customer quality requirements.
  • Oversee the end-to-end in-house manufacturing process including injection molding, wet coating, PVD coating, CNC machining, assembly, and quality testing.
  • Implement (in partnership with QA Manager) environmental testing of optical coatings including laser damage, UV, temperature, and humidity conditions.
  • Contribute to new designs, manufacturing process developments, and equipment installations.
  • Monitor and improve performance and quality of products. Lead manufacturing improvement projects.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and operation.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Performance:

  • Work with QA Manager to complete corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) and implement solutions to improve manufacturing processes.
  • Lead process capability actions as required by customers and internal Galvion needs.
  • Use PPAP and other processes to verify and document process reliability.
  • Develop a strong knowledge of standards and specifications which relate to Galvion products.



WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Bachelors degree in Applied Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or related engineering with experience in thin film vapor deposition coating design and manufacturing.
  • 4+ years experience in a manufacturing environment with strong knowledge of automated assembly processes.
  • Experience with e-beam PVD coating equipment is required.
  • Experience with optical wet coatings desired.
  • Experience with LEAN Manufacturing Methodologies and its implementation, a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Fast learner, self-starter, must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A positive can-do, customer-oriented attitude is necessary.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Motivated and creative problem solver.
  • CAD Experience required.
  • Proficient in computer skills Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook).
  • PLC Logic Understanding a plus.
