Job Title: Traffic Controller (Flagger / Traffic Control Technician)

Job Summary:

The Traffic Controller is responsible for directing and managing the safe movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic around construction zones, accident scenes, utility work areas, and other disruptions to normal traffic flow. This role is crucial in protecting the lives of workers, motorists, and pedestrians by maintaining a safe and orderly environment.

Key Responsibilities:

* Set up, maintain, and remove temporary traffic control signs, cones, barricades, and other warning devices according to traffic management plans and safety regulations.

* Direct and control the movement of traffic using hand signals, stop/slow paddles, and two-way radios.

* Communicate clearly and effectively with construction crews, emergency responders, and the general public regarding traffic flow and safety procedures.

* Monitor traffic behavior and adjust control measures as needed to ensure safety and efficiency.

* Inform drivers of detours, hazards, and speed limits.

* Report any accidents, safety concerns, or violations to the site supervisor or appropriate authorities.

* Maintain a high level of alertness and awareness of surroundings at all times.

* Complete required paperwork, such as daily activity logs or incident reports.

* Adhere to all company safety policies and local, state, and federal regulations regarding traffic control.

* May assist with other site-related tasks as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:

* High school diploma or GED equivalent.

* Valid state-issued Traffic Controller (Flagger) certification (or ability to obtain one).

* Good understanding of traffic control procedures, signage, and safety regulations.

* Ability to stand for extended periods, often in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain).

* Good vision and hearing (with or without corrective aids).

* Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations.

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

* Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required.

* Reliable transportation to and from various work sites.

* Physical ability to lift and move traffic control equipment (e.g., signs, cones weighing up to 50 lbs).

* Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check (as required by employer).

Desired Skills:

* Previous experience in traffic control or a related construction/safety field.

* Basic knowledge of first aid and emergency response.

* Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

* Strong sense of responsibility and commitment to safety.

* Punctuality and dependability.
