Position Summary

The Lead Irrigation Specialist is a skilled to semi-skilled position responsible for the installation, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of irrigation systems across Commercial and Residential properties. This role requires strong technical expertise, the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The position involves physically demanding work, operation of light and heavy equipment, and year-round responsibilities including snow removal

Key Responsibilities:

Irrigation Systems & Technical Work

  • Lead the installation, troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of simple to moderately complex irrigation systems; assist with complex systems as needed.
  • Inspect, repair, and maintain irrigation valves, mainlines, pumps, controllers, and associated equipment on a scheduled basis.
  • Program and manage automatic irrigation controllers
  • Test complete irrigation systems to ensure proper operation of valves, timers, and hydraulics.
  • Locate irrigation wiring and mainlines for repairs and contractor coordination.
  • Excavate trenches and perform necessary repairs or replacements of damaged equipment.
  • Organize work orders, equipment, and materials to ensure efficient completion of assignments.
  • Communicate labor, material, and equipment needs to the Irrigation Manager.

Administrative & Operational Duties

  • Maintain accurate records of work orders received and completed
  • Complete daily paperwork including timecards, and job sheets in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain vehicle inventory, cleanliness, and professional appearance.
  • Participate in required meetings, training sessions, and educational opportunities related to irrigation, turf management, and landscape construction.

Seasonal & Additional Duties

  • Perform snow removal and winter standby/on-call duties as assigned.
  • Respond to emergency situations and extreme weather events.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of irrigation systems, installation practices, and troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of computerized irrigation systems
  • Understanding of irrigation hydraulics, low-voltage systems, and pump diagnostics.
  • Ability to operate light and heavy equipment including trucks, dump trucks, tractors, backhoes, and landscape tools.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and meet production expectations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two (2) years of irrigation experience; 3–6 years preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with proof of a safe driving record
  • Willingness to learn, adapt, and take on new challenges in the irrigation industry.
  • Regular exposure to all weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, rain, snow, and ice.
  • Availability for on-call and standby duty during winter months.
