JOB SUMMARY:

The Lead Rewind Operator at Polyvinyl Films Inc. is responsible for overseeing all rewinding operations to ensure optimal productivity, quality, and safety. This leadership role involves operating and maintaining rewinding machines, supervising other operators, coordinating with production teams, and ensuring that all finished plastic rolls meet quality specifications. The Lead Rewind Operator also plays a critical role in training, mentoring, and supporting team members to achieve departmental goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and support the rewind team to meet daily production targets, ensuring quality and efficiency in all processes.
  • Set up, operate, and monitor rewinding machines, while also guiding team members in proper operation and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Perform and oversee inspections of finished rolls to detect defects such as wrinkles, uneven thickness, or damage.
  • Ensure consistent adherence to quality control standards and assist in implementing improvements to enhance product integrity.
  • Adjust machine settings including tension, speed, and roll size based on production specifications and troubleshooting needs.
  • Coordinate closely with the extrusion and production teams to streamline workflow, minimize downtime, and resolve production issues.
  • Train and mentor new and existing operators on machine operation, safety procedures, and best practices.
  • Oversee the setup and calibration of rewinding equipment, ensuring readiness for production runs.
  • Conduct and delegate routine maintenance tasks and cleaning to maintain machinery performance and longevity.
  • Review and validate production logs, ensuring accurate reporting of output, downtime, and maintenance activities.
  • Monitor inventory levels for raw materials and communicate needs to appropriate personnel.
  • Lead shift meetings and safety briefings; promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, OSHA standards, and manufacturing protocols.
  • Assist supervisors in scheduling and assigning daily tasks to rewind operators based on production priorities.

ESSENTIALS JOB DUTIES:

  • Maintain a high level of machine proficiency and be the go-to resource for troubleshooting and operational guidance.
  • Uphold quality assurance standards by conducting spot checks and ensuring finished rolls meet customer and internal specifications.
  • Act as a liaison between rewind team and shift supervisors or production managers to report issues, suggest improvements, and align on goals.
  • Monitor team performance and assist with employee evaluations by providing feedback on efficiency, adherence to SOPs, and work ethic.
  • Support cross-training initiatives and ensure knowledge transfer across the team to increase flexibility and reduce downtime.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Proven ability to operate, troubleshoot, and adjust rewinding machinery.
  • Demonstrated leadership, team coordination, and mentoring skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with a proactive approach to quality assurance.
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to resolve operational issues quickly.
  • Knowledge of plastic film properties and common production defects.
  • Familiarity with production reporting and recordkeeping best practices.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Additional training or certifications in machine operation, manufacturing processes, or team leadership preferred.
  • Minimum 2–4 years of experience operating rewind or similar machinery in a manufacturing environment.
  • Prior experience in a lead, trainer, or supervisory capacity is strongly preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly.
  • Frequent standing, bending, crouching, and reaching throughout shifts.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures, dust from machines, and loud noise.
  • Ability to operate machinery safely and efficiently under physical and time constraints.


PART-TIME WEEKENDS:
Saturday & Sunday: 7:00pm-7:00am
12 hour shift
