Job Description

The Camp Lifeguard for Sunset Point Camp is responsible for the supervision of pool, bay and beach swimming activities throughout the summer to ensure a safe and fun atmosphere for campers. The position includes overseeing weekly swim tests for arriving campers, oversight of daily scheduled recreational swim and water activities for campers each week. This position is seasonal and includes staff training days the week before camp starts.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Always maintain professional boundaries. Present self in mature and responsible manner
  • Lead and supervise all aquatic activities at camp’s pool and off-camp trips as needed
  • Perform daily and weekly maintenance tasks on pool (pool and deck area, equipment
  • room and chemical room)
  • Maintain chemical and filtration systems daily and accurately record of chemical levels

and other required logbook information

  • Daily inventory and maintain equipment used in pool area
  • Initiate a water safety program in accordance with American Camping Association
  • standards and Red Cross requirements
  • Follow established policies and procedures for pool area
  • Test and classify camp swimmers, and assign staff to tend to swimmers needing
  • assistance
  • Prevent incidents from occurring by maintaining proper control over pool facility
  • Be able to recognize victims in distress, activities which may put swimmers at risk and
  • physical hazards which could injure swimmer
  • Provide a safe environment for all staff and campers while at the waterfront
  • Provide engaging waterfront focused activities
  • Assist with camp activities in inclement weather
  • Act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of campers in the event of
  • emergency
  • Responsible for first aid and rescue equipment to be at the pool area and available
  • Responsible for assisting camp staff in emergency procedures
  • Work is performed in and outdoors at an overnight camp environment with children and adults. May be exposed to high degree of temperatures without air-conditioning. Daily exposure to sun and outdoor elements. Standing, stretching, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying to30 pounds.
  • Attend all required meetings and trainings

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 16 years old, enrolled in school and hold a current lifeguard certification with the American Red Cross, American Canoes Association Instructor or WSI certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year/season as a lifeguard
  • Certified in First Aid/ CPR/AED by a nationally recognized organization
  • Experience working with latency age youth
  • Strong vision and hearing with keen attention to the surrounding environment.
  • Able to perform work in seasonal summer climate that includes high degree of temperatures without air conditioning. Ability to stand and move about for long periods of time.
  • Strong reading, writing and communication skills ability to work well with others
  • Ability to be culturally humble and work with diverse backgrounds
  • Flexible and good natured, patience working with others.

The base pay range reflects what Catholic Charities reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this role at the time of posting and may be modified from time to time. Actual compensation in this range may be determined based on other factors, including but not limited to work experience, education and specialty training.
