SUMMARY OF POSITION FUNCTION:

Maintains a safe, clean and orderly dorm by effectively controlling student behavior.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conducts and reports daily inspections of assigned dormitories for health and safety, cleanliness and maintenance issues.
  • Monitors student activity in assigned dormitories and ensures appropriate student behavior.
  • Maintains communication with students’ counselors, instructors, and with other staff.
  • Assists in the packing of student belongings, inventories student belongings and shipping.
  • May transport students to various activities and events.
  • Reinforces positive behaviors and holds students accountable for negative behaviors.
  • Maintains a log of activities taking place during the shift.
  • Communicates with appropriate departments any dormitory needs, incidents or emergencies.
  • Ensures that buildings are always secure and clean.
  • Orders supplies or equipment as needed.
  • Closing out student inventory.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to build effective working relationships with students and staff
  • Capacity to set and administer accountability
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to compose/write descriptive reports
  • Some knowledge of intervention techniques and ability to address and remedy inappropriate behavior
  • Proficient in the use of computer software such as MSWord, Excel and Outlook, etc.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Residential experience working with youth in a group home or college dormitory setting preferred.

OTHER:

  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:

  • Reading, writing and communicating fluently in English

  • Seeing to read labels, posters, documents, PC screens, etc.
  • Sitting, standing, moving about or walking for occasional or frequent periods of time
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and other office equipment
  • Kneeling, bending at the waist, stooping and reaching overhead
  • Retrieving and storing files and supplies; occasionally carrying and/or lifting light objects

  • Indoor and outdoor environment
  • Exposure to possible confrontations with students



Monday through Friday 7AM to 4PM.
