Position Summary

The Senior Database Administrator/Team Lead will serve as the team lead and key contributor for a dedicated team of Senior Database Administrators with many years of experience in various database systems. This team is part of a larger team, Product Technology Services, which responsible for ensuring that Yes Energy's technology products and solutions are relevant, cutting-edge, and cost-effective.

This position is a mission-critical team player and a leader who can see the big picture, including the full relationship between the systems, operational deliverables, and the customer experience. Key performance indicators include uptime, system performance, data quality, service level, and customer and employee satisfaction. The team lead requires the candidate to move seamlessly between strategic systems and operations planning, hands-on DBA implementation, and management as business needs dictate. This position will be primarily responsible for developing a deep and functional DBA team that monitors, enhances and operates our business-critical data systems.

Position Details

  • Salary range: USD $150,000 - 170,000; depending on experience and location
  • Location: Boston/Dedham, MA; Richmond, VA; or Bucharest, Romania
  • Full-time
  • Hybrid; Will be required to work in the office 2-3 days a week
  • Reporting to: Vice President, Technology

Primary Responsibilities

Lead, direct, and support the DBA team.Ensure best practices are documented and followed to anticipate, mitigate, and resolve problems affecting database performance, efficiency, and availability.Manage, coordinate, and optimize development and support efforts in various database environments with hands-on responsibilities, especially on Oracle and MS SQL Server.

  • Ensure our on-premise and cloud databases are functioning as one seamless system

Perform installations, configurations, backups, recovery, and tunes database performance for Oracle and MS SQL Server.Support code reviews and provide solutions/guidance to issues faced by DB and application developers during SDLC.Administer and maintain end user accounts, permissions, and access rights.Assist compliance team in managing updates, patches, and upgrades for system availability and complianceIdentify opportunities for improvement, makes proposals, and participates in planning maintenance plus new, or enhanced technologies and services.Communicate problems and resolution processes to IT and Business partners.Evaluate performance and costs through regular reporting and summaries of the systems, including availability, usage, and capacity.Ensure 24x7x365 availability for critical data services.Provide On-Call and after-business hours support as needed.Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related field

Must have strong hands-on leadership, direction, and support to the DBA team

  • 10 years of experience in Information Technology, including at least 4 years of strong hands-on experience with database modeling, extraction tools, and replication technologies (solutions, designing, installing, configuring, and administrating)
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with High Availability methodologies such as Oracle ExaData, RAC, MS SQL Always On Availability Groups, Active Data Guard
  • Proficient in SQL and experience with relational and non-relational databases
  • Experience with data warehousing solutions (e.g., Snowflake, Synapse, Autonomous Data Warehouse, MySQL)
  • Familiar with database replication tools or techniques
  • Experience working in agile team is a plus
