El Centro at the Adult Education and Workforce Development Division of Catholic Charities of Boston offers comprehensive, high-quality educational services to advance and accelerate the academic achievement of adult immigrant learners who face significant barriers in their search of viable career pathways and self-sufficiency. ESOL Teacher VI for El Centro Adult Education teachers a hybrid ESOL course to a group of adult immigrant students at the intermediate/high intermediate levels of language proficiency; provides academic advising and personalized support to students; develops up-to-date curriculum materials following student needs, goals, and environmental changes; works collaboratively with El Centro team of teachers and advisors.
16 instructional hours weekly. In-person and on-line classes. Wednesday, Thursday, 9 am to 1 pm in-person; Tuesday, Friday 10 am - 12 pm on-line (Zoom); 4 hours weekly asynchronous instruction.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Teach a hybrid ESOL course to adult immigrant students at intermediate/high intermediate level.
• Comfortable using Zoom and other on-line communication platforms and tools.
• Integrate college and career readiness instruction.
• Provide academic advising and personalized support to students.
• Adhere to ESOL Professional Standards to deliver effective instruction.
• Maintain communications with students in a culturally sensitive manner and timely address student issues.
• Integrate computer technology into the program curriculum.
• Develop curriculum and instructional materials following student needs and reflecting environmental changes.
• Maintain student attendance records.
• Provide academic advising to students.
• Coordinate volunteer services of the assigned to the class volunteer tutors.
• Participate in weekly staff meetings.
• Maintain students' records in the agency reporting tools.
• Facilitate culturally sensitive and inclusive environment conducive to students’ academic, personal, and professional development.
• Fulfil ad-hock responsibilities according to program needs.
• Participate in professional development and apply new knowledge and practices.
• Perform work in a classroom and remote home/office environment with the use of computers, phones, and other office equipment.
• Work in close collaboration with a team of ESOL instructors, coaches, and advisors.
• Attend internal and external meetings and trainings as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor’s degree in education or related field, or teaching certification and commensurate work experience
- A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in a similar environment strongly preferred
- Strong working knowledge of educational theory and best practices
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and compassionately in a culturally competent manner, with students of a wide variety of backgrounds, skill levels, race and ethnicity with varying level of English language skills
- Technology skills - knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) required, Google Classroom and Zoom experience preferred
