SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The versatile Maintenance Technician is responsible for a wide range of tasks, including preventive and routine facility maintenance such as general repairs, plumbing, painting, and equipment relocation. Additionally, this role will handle various duties such as emergency preparedness, supporting special events or projects, and responding to maintenance requests from the school community. All work is performed on the campus of Worcester Academy and in the school buildings.
12 noon to 8:30 pm, 40 hours week, days to be determined
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND KEY OBJECTIVES
· Making repairs to equipment, machinery, plumbing, heating and wiring
· Conduct regular inspections to identify repairs or safety hazards and report issues promptly
· Perform a wide range of repair tasks, including structural damages, such as window, door or wall repairs
· Repair broken or leaking plumbing to avoid water damages and restore full use of water fixtures
· Make routine electrical repairs such as replacing small motors, lamp replacement and electrical fixtures
· Move equipment, furniture, and boxes; assist with deliveries and manage materials
· Assist with room setup and tear down involving equipment, furniture, and materials before and after campus events
· Painting when tasked
· Serve as member of campus snow removal team
· Fix and repair potential safety hazards to avoid injuries
· Participate in keeping Academy facilities operating efficiently and in a safe manner.
· Responsible for completing work orders or verbal assignments as assigned in a reasonable time frame
· Assist other maintenance personnel as assigned by supervisor
· Maintain clean work environment during assignment and thorough clean-up after completion
· Secure all areas where work has been completed or is in process
· Work additional hours as required to meet the needs of the school
· Responsible for all tools handled and stored in the Maintenance Areas
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Minimum requirement: High school diploma or equivalent
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience related to general building repair and maintenance.
- Must possess a valid MA Driver License
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Plumbing knowledge to address leaks, clogs, or other drainage problems
- Electrical wiring capabilities to manage problems and troubleshoot solutions
- Carpentry ability to handle basic repairs
- General groundskeeping knowledge
- Knowledge and practical experience with general maintenance, building operations such as fire alarm systems, plumbing and basic heating control systems
- Ability to work from drawings, blueprints and/or schematics.
- Self-motivated team player with proven organizational and time management skills
- Interpersonal skills to interact with employees, residential staff, in an appropriate manner
- Attention to detail to ensure that all jobs are completed in a timely manner and any potential hazards or problems are not overlooked
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (both verbally and in writing)
- Ability to work in a professional, courteous and friendly manner.
- Ability to work independently and effectively in a group setting.

This position reports to the Director of Facilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to complete and pass a pre-employment physical with reasonable accommodations available.
- Must be able to lift and carry 70 pounds.
- Must have physical stamina to handle a full shift of activity
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to squat, kneel, lift and bend repetitively and incrementally throughout a scheduled shift
- Ability to navigate a walking campus in all forms of weather conditions.
- Ability to operate a snow shovel, lifting heavy snow and walk behind snow blower for long periods of time.
- Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions including extreme cold and heat, rain, snow and wind.
