About This Position
Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary is seeking to fill Field Teacher positions to support outdoor public summer programming in Worcester. This includes the following programs:
- Neighborhood Nature: A youth and family drop-in style series designed to engage people in nature education through crafts, nature walks, touch tables right in their local neighborhoods.
- Sensory Friendly Days: Mass Audubon staff create quiet and calm environments at our own local wildlife sanctuaries to deliver sensory friendly activities including nature exploration, touch stations, and guided walks.
- Accessibility/Affinity Programs: In partnership with local groups and organizations, these nature education programs are designed with and for historically and contemporarily marginalized communities including but not limited to: indigenous community members, people of color, immigrant families, and people with disabilities. These experiences promote connection to nature and a sense of belonging.

Responsibilities
- Deliver outdoor education programs to youth, families, adults, and local groups and organizations
- Maintain educational supplies, curricula, materials, and resources
- Maintain the safety of all participants
- Become familiar with and teach a variety of environmental educational activities
- Engage participants in hands-on learning that develop ecology and conservation knowledge
- Assist in setting up before and cleaning up after programs
- Travel to various sites throughout Worcester to facilitate programming

We are looking for applicants with the following qualifications:
Must Haves
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- A love of nature and teaching outdoors
- Interest and experience with natural history, environmental education and/or science education
- Strong organizational, time management, oral, and written communication skills
- Experience in customer service or childcare and excellent interpersonal skills
- Skills and ability to work with diverse groups, exercise cultural humility, and implement best practices in inclusion
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and work collaboratively, as a positive contributor to the team
Nice to Haves
- Knowledge of local natural history, conservation, and environmental education
- Familiarity with culturally responsive teaching or other equity-based pedagogy
- Experience delivering urban environmental education programming or equivalent
- Flexibility and ability to adapt programming to fit each group’s needs
- First Aid and CPR (child and adult) certification
Compensation, Benefits and Perks
This position’s pay range is $17.96-$20.20/hour; actual salary will reflect level of experience and qualifications relative to position requirements. This is not a benefits eligible position.
Work Schedule
This position starts on July 8, 2025 and ends on October 24, 2025. Variable hours, typically 5-10 per week with some weekend and evening work.
Other Requirements
Employees must successfully complete a CORI and SORI Background Check and a Motor Vehicle Record (if applicable) is required.
