ROLE

To work alongside the site leadership team taking responsibility for manufacturing engineering related activities and managing the Business Management System across the site whilst ensuring product quality is met through the product lifecycle and manufacturing system.


Experience within the optical manufacturing sector is essential

MANDATORY RESPONSIBILITIES

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Evaluate existing optical manufacturing processes and workflows to identify areas that could benefit from changes and improvements both internally and within the supply chain
  • Drives implementation of LEAN and CI practices across the organization
  • Leads projects to improve quality, cost and efficiency against tangible results also taking into account H&S both internally and within the supply chain
  • Provide optical manufacturing expertise across the business and its supply chain with regards to design, manufacture and measurement of components, assemblies and systems
  • Overall responsibility for the Business Management Manual and associated procedures.
  • Continually evolve best working practices and procedures to deliver business excellence and certification.
  • Manages Quality customer interface to proactively assure requirements are understood and satisfied, including assisting in complaint resolution and root cause and corrective action determination.
  • Analyses organizational quality metrics and performs managerial reviews to evaluate results and recommend action plans to close gaps at an operational level.
  • Participates in, and may lead, the auditing of internal Business Management Systems including ownership of the schedule.
  • Development & qualification of supplier product / process of new purchased parts working with Sourcing, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing and the supplier.
  • Interfaces with the Engineering, Operations and Supply Chain departments to drive cost effective manufacturing process improvements that optimize throughput and minimize waste.
  • Champion and co-ordinate problem solving and root cause analysis activities with the site and suppliers to eliminate recurrence of non-conformances.
  • On a day-to-day basis work to resolve supplier technical issues in a timely manner to ensure continuity of supply.
  • Manage the evaluation and qualification of new suppliers & materials, i.e, closure of audit actions and co-ordination of FAIRs. (First Article Inspection Reports).
  • Leads and develops the Quality Assurance and Control structure capable of supporting both the tactical and strategic business plans and initiatives.
  • Ensures quality organization support to the Global Supplier Quality team in the management of new and existing supply chains.
  • Actively support New Product and Process Development activities.
  • Provide analysis and regular tracking of issues related to material non-conformance.
  • Supporting the NPD/NPI gate review activities.
  • Management of calibrated equipment.

Requirements:

  • QUALIFICATIONS
    Degree level Engineering qualification preferred but not essential

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES

  • Self-driven with the ability to set own priorities and work independently
  • Challenging, but with high level of emotional intelligence
  • Attention to detail with excellent analytical skills
  • Strong influencing, communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills
  • Change agent

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Familiarisation with ISO9001 accredited management systems is essential, AS9100 experience would be preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience within an optical manufacturing role working in the aerospace and defense sector.
  • Experience with coordinating multi-functional teams in delivering business objectives/initiatives.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of quality assurance and continuous improvement methods, approaches, and tools, including strategic management.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive results in Quality and continuous improvement areas.
  • Mature Customer focused approach handling issues with urgency.
  • Experience in implementing process improvements using structured problem solving methodologies.
  • Experienced in the use of Microsoft office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint essential
