Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A contract position is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support students and staff within an educational setting in Salem, NH. This role plays a crucial part in fostering effective communication and ensuring accessibility for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clear and accurate interpretation of spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classroom instruction, meetings, and school events.
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and other school personnel to support inclusive learning environments.
- Assist in the development and implementation of individualized educational plans as related to communication needs.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
- Collaborate with educators and support staff to promote effective communication strategies.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language with a strong ability to interpret in educational contexts.
- Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter in schools or similar environments preferred.
- Knowledge of Deaf culture and sensitivity to the needs of Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and manage time effectively.
- Relevant certification or credentials as an interpreter may be advantageous.
