Tree Care Equipment Mechanic
Position Overview
The Tree Care Equipment Mechanic supports our crews by keeping all fleet vehicles and specialized tree care equipment in safe, reliable working condition. This role focuses on preventive maintenance, basic repairs, and troubleshooting for equipment unique to tree care operations, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum safety in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance (oil changes, lubrication, tire checks, fluid levels, tire changes) on company trucks, trailers, and heavy-duty tree care equipment.
- Conduct basic diagnostics and repairs on:
- Bucket trucks (hydraulic systems, electrical controls, boom safety checks)
- Chippers (knife replacement, drum adjustments, feed system maintenance, wiring and lights)
- Stump grinders (teeth replacement, belts, bearings, and safety switches)
- Chainsaws & small engines (tuning, carburetor cleaning, chain sharpening, repairing)
- Inspect and service hydraulic systems on aerial lifts, cranes, and other specialty units.
- Ensure all repairs and maintenance meet manufacturer standards, DOT, and OSHA safety requirements.
- Maintain detailed maintenance logs for each piece of equipment.
- Assist with emergency roadside or job site repairs when needed.
- Keep the shop organized and stocked with essential parts and supplies.
- Meet weekly with the General Manger to go over repair needs.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1+ years of experience working on tree care or forestry equipment (or heavy equipment with similar hydraulics and small engines).
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems, diesel and gas engines, and small engine repair.
- Experience with bucket trucks, chippers, and stump grinders strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with DOT inspection standards for fleet vehicles.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL a plus.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work outdoors in varying weather.
