SCHEDULE: 40 hours, Monday - Friday, four (4) day work week, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., may include nights, early mornings, and weekends as needed. This position is essential.


Pays $77,417 annually DOE


This position carries a retention payment of $3,000.00, $1,000.00 payable at 12 months, and $2,000.00 at 24 months


LOCATION: 444 Harrison Ave, Boston, MA, 363 Albany St, Boston MA, and 170 Morton St, Jamaica Plain, MA; this position works on-site and is not eligible for fully remote work.


SUMMARY OF POSITION:


The Clinical Supervisor will work within Pine Street Inn’s (PSI) Shelter Clinical Services to supervise 3 clinical team members who assess new guests at the Front Door of the Shelter System and immediately begin working with guests to quickly identify their needs and resources in order to determine a housing pathway. The Triage Clinical Supervisor will provide supervision and consultation to the Triage Clinicians. The Triage Clinical Supervisor will play a vital role in working with individuals whose mental illness, substance use, or trauma history present additional barriers to their housing. The Triage Clinical Supervisor will oversee clinical staff as they conduct bio-psych-social assessments and provide immediate referral services. Each guest will have varying support needs. The Triage Clinical Supervisor will work with clinicians to develop a safe placement and stability plan with a goal for diverting individuals to appropriate community placements and resources. These services could include, but are not limited to, safety planning, connection to medication resources, referral to Shelter Clinical Services clinician and/or Clinical Case Manager, assisting a guest in accessing detox or recovery services and other stabilization services as needed. The Triage Clinical Supervisor will coach clinicians as they establish a safe placement and stability plan for guests transitioning, it is the expectation that all Triage staff participate in warm hand offs to internal and external providers for continued work toward permanent housing.


The Triage Clinical Supervisor will also take a proactive, leadership role in diverting from shelter whenever appropriate and will work with community providers of health and behavioral health services to coordinate care plans which do not rely on emergency shelter when other more appropriate medical and behavioral health services should be explored and utilized. The Triage Clinical Supervisor will work with local hospitals and care facilities to educate on the appropriate use of our shelters and will provide advocacy for clients. The Triage Clinical Supervisor will work with the Triage Clinicians to coordinate appropriate discharge plans for guests who are reentering the community from incarceration with a clear focus on upstream services which avoid unnecessary reliance on emergency shelter. The Triage Clinical Supervisor will ensure Triage Clinicians work within a best practice framework of Harm Reduction, Motivational Interviewing and Trauma-Informed Care and, whenever possible, will provide support toward family reunification and mitigating barriers to securing alternative options for safe housing.


The Triage Clinical Supervisor will work closely with the Shelter Clinical Services clinicians, Outreach Team, Shelter Operations, Housing Placement and other providers such as BHCHP nursing staff, DMH HOT team, BEST team, etc.


The Triage Clinical Supervisor will be responsible for providing staff education and supervision to up to 5 FTE’s and may supervise interns. The Triage Clinical Supervisor will work closely with the Associate Director of Shelter Clinical Services and leadership around programming and clinical issues, and will assume a leadership role in the absence of the Associate Director of Shelter Clinical Services. The incumbent will participate in on-call rotating clinical support.


Working in conjunction with Pine Street Inn’s Program Evaluation department, the Triage Clinical Supervisor will be responsible for producing data and up-date guest Clarity files on a regular basis and enter Efforts to Outcomes. The Triage Clinical Supervisor will also assist the Associate Director of Shelter Clinical Services in preparing monthly, quarterly and annual progress reports. The Triage Clinical Supervisor is responsible for documenting their work with both staff and clients in both written and electronic formats.


Requirements:

EDUCATION/TRAINING:


REQUIRED:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field, plus eligibility for independent licensure (such as LICSW or LMHC) within 12 months of hire.

PREFERRED:

  • A valid Massachusetts Driver’s License in good standing

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:


REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience overseeing the work of licensed and/or credentialed mental health professionals.
  • Experienced in conducting clinical assessments and making referrals to individual and group treatments for adults with mental illness and addictive disorders
  • Extensive knowledge, understanding and application of Motivational Interviewing, Trauma-Informed Care, and Stages of Change work
  • Experience with building teams, creating and implementing treatment plan processes
  • Experience training staff in best practices, new clinical research, regulatory changes, self-care, and updated methodologies
  • Knowledge of and strong commitment to harm reduction philosophy, principles and practices
  • Training and successful application of Crisis Intervention and stabilization
  • Awareness of and commitment to self-care strategies, practices and support
  • Ability to consult about psychiatric issues with professional and non-professional staff
  • Strong computer skills including familiarity with management information systems or database programs
  • Significant knowledge of and experience treating individuals with trauma, addictions, co-occurring disorders, mental illness, and homelessness

PREFERRED:

  • Experience working in a hospital or trauma center
  • Experience in triage and or diversion
  • Experience working with chronically homeless, medically vulnerable individuals, with tri-morbidities (mental illness, substance abuse, medically compromised)
  • Knowledge and professional alignment with Housing First philosophy
  • Expertise in Trauma-Informed Care, including the impact on direct-care staff (i.e. secondary traumatic stress, vicarious traumatization)
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English
  • Familiarity with the Massachusetts public and private mental health systems
