Job Description
Job DescriptionSalary: $95,000 to $115,000
The Manufacturing Engineer will focus on supporting and optimizing the manufacturing processes for our established line of electromechanical sensor systems (producing ~50,000 units annually). The ideal candidate will be self-driven, capable of working independently to enhance quality, reduce costs, and ensure the smooth operation of the manufacturing process. This position involves interfacing with various internal teams and external suppliers and requires up to 10% travel, both domestic and Mexico.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process Optimization & Support:
- Monitor manufacturing activities for electromechanical sensor systems, providing engineering support to troubleshoot and resolve production issues promptly.
- Maintain and troubleshoot electromechanical manufacturing fixtures and test equipment, utilizing both hands-on and remote methods.
- Identify and implement improvements to enhance efficiency, yield, and throughput.
- Quality Assurance & Improvement:
- Develop, implement, and refine quality control procedures and documentation.
- Analyze quality data (yields, failure rates, customer feedback) to identify trends, lead root cause analysis (RCA) efforts for failures, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Develop and implement improvements to manufacturing test procedures and equipment for enhanced efficiency and defect detection.
- Streamline quality processes to ensure consistent product reliability.
- Cost Reduction:
- Actively seek out and champion cost reduction opportunities through process improvements, material analysis, tooling optimization, or collaboration with suppliers.
- Supplier & Vendor Interface:
- Serve as a technical point of contact for component and service suppliers.
- Collaborate with procurement and quality teams to manage supplier performance, address quality concerns, and qualify new vendors or alternative components, potentially including supplier technical interviews and site visits.
- Failure Analysis & Root Cause Investigation:
- Participate in or lead cross-functional teams to investigate product failures or manufacturing defects.
- Utilize structured problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone, FMEA) to determine root causes and implement robust solutions.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Create and maintain essential manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process flows, control plans, and engineering change orders (ECOs).
- Report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production efficiency, quality, and cost.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Five years of relevant experience, demonstrating increasing responsibility and project leadership.
- Proven experience working in a medium-to-high volume manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes (e.g., SMT, PCB assembly, mechanical assembly, automated testing, calibration).- Proficiency with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001) and quality tools (SPC, FMEA, Control Plans).
- Demonstrated experience with root cause analysis and structured problem-solving techniques.
- Experience interacting with and managing suppliers/vendors.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications; familiarity with common electrical analysis tools (e.g., multimeter, oscilloscope).
- Experience analyzing data from various sources (e.g., manufacturing databases, quality logs).
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Highly self-motivated, proactive, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability and willingness to travel approximately 10% (primarily domestic USA and Mexico).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting the production of electromechanical assemblies or devices is highly preferred.
- Proficiency with database query tools (e.g., SQL) and experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for data analysis are a plus
