ABOUT THE POSITION
The Child & Family Specialist provides referral support to parents/caregivers in CSR’s child care programs and helps educators measure developmental screening, assessment, and progress. Using tools such as Ages & Stages (ASQ) and Creative Curriculum/Teaching Strategies GOLD, this role coordinates with families, directors, and social workers to ensure timely screenings, accurate data entry in ETO, and effective referrals that improve learning outcomes before children enter the public school system.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Collect, review, and verify Ages & Stages (ASQ) from assistant directors and social workers/coordinators; ensure correct scoring prior to ETO entry.
• Track and record screening/assessment data in the ETO system and maintain accurate, timely documentation.
• Coordinate communication among parents/caregivers, program directors, and social workers; follow up via calls/letters on referral steps.
• Review monthly child progress reports using ASQ and Creative Curriculum/Teaching Strategies GOLD.
• Provide information and referrals to CSR Behavioral Health when appropriate; refer to THOM Family Childcare & Referral Service as needed.
• Attend Early Learning Network meetings (e.g., DSNI) and planning team meetings related to referrals.
• Engage and coach parents/caregivers to network and link to community resources and services; support advocacy and access to care.
• Complete all ASQ paperwork and related data entry on schedule; submit required reports to directors.
• Provide culturally competent services that honor each family’s values, language, identity, and goals; maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Collaborate with other specialists to integrate education with health, mental health, nutrition, dental, parent involvement, and social services.
REQUIREMENTS
Must-Haves
• High school diploma/GED and 2+ years working with children/adolescents/transition-age youth or Associate’s/Bachelor’s in a Human Services–related field and 1+ year with children/adolescents/transition-age youth.
• Familiarity with child assessment and screening tools (e.g., ASQ; Creative Curriculum/Teaching Strategies GOLD).
• Experience navigating child- and family-serving systems and coordinating referrals.
• Strong writing and communication skills with accurate, timely documentation and data tracking (ETO or similar).
• Ability to work cooperatively across disciplines and with diverse families; commitment to confidentiality.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of automobile insurance.
Nice-to-Haves
• Lived experience as a caregiver of a youth with special needs (especially mental health) and the ability to use that experience appropriately in service of families.
• Bilingual/multilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, Portuguese).
• Experience with community outreach and partnership development.
• Knowledge of wraparound models and local Early Learning Networks (e.g., DSNI).
• Proficiency with ETO and comfort presenting data to teams.
