Position Summary

We are seeking a highly organized, proactive Director of Programs for Report for the World (RFW) to lead day-to-day operations, deliver excellent people management and teamwork, ensure efficient administration, accurate invoicing and billing, and effective coordination across regions. This role is critical to the success of our program and requires a strong operational mindset, attention to detail, and experience managing distributed global teams.

Key ResponsibilitiesProgram Management

  • Work with the executive director (ED) to translate Report for the World's strategy into actionable work plans with clear objectives, timelines, and key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Manage and collaborate with Regional Managers in Africa, South Asia, Latin America, and other regions to ensure consistent, high-quality program delivery.

  • Facilitate cross-regional collaborations and knowledge-sharing, including reporting projects, case studies, workshops, masterclasses, and events.

  • Develop and maintain systems for tracking program performance, deliverables, and outcomes.

  • Develop and revise policies and workflows, including newsroom onboarding, journalist support systems, newsroom and journalist partnership life-cycle management, and reporting requirements to ensure smooth, consistent, and effective program delivery.

  • Provide strategic and operational support to program teams and consultants to ensure clear communication, role clarity, and shared understanding across teams.

  • Lead day-to-day implementation of the program; ensure all systems (Airtable, Salesforce, etc.) and processes are accurate and up to date.

  • Define and deliver an outstanding experience for partner newsrooms and journalists; align success metrics with leadership and meet those goals.

  • Develop and revise policies and procedures for corps members.

  • Promote diversity within the program.

  • Coordinate and assist other staff with events, activities, and fundraising throughout the year as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Administrative & Financial Oversight

  • Lead and manage the full invoicing and billing cycle, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.

  • Maintain tracking systems for accounts payable and receivable.

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the program team and the finance department.

  • Collaborate closely with finance staff.

Staff Supervision

  • Supervise three regional team members; provide guidance, coaching, and performance feedback.

  • Ensure consistency in processes, documentation, and service delivery across regional operations.

  • Schedule and lead regular team meetings, check-ins, and professional development opportunities.

  • Coordinate RFW meetings and activities across functions, keeping the program connected to Media Innovation, Communications, and Fundraising.

Stakeholder Coordination

  • Serve as the administrative point of contact for internal departments, partners, and vendors.

  • Prepare program materials, presentations, and reports for leadership and funders.

  • Support event coordination and logistics for regional and organization-wide meetings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, nonprofit management, journalism, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in administrative or program management roles, including financial oversight.

  • Applicants from minority/marginalized communities are encouraged to apply.

  • Prior supervisory experience, especially managing remote or regional staff.

  • Proficiency with invoicing and billing systems and project management/CRM tools (e.g., QuickBooks, Salesforce, Airtable).

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple time zones.

  • Experience working in a global environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a nonprofit.

  • Familiarity with grant-funded program management and reporting.

  • Bilingual or multilingual skills.

  • Journalism or media experience.

  • Applicants living near current program operations, especially in the Middle East and Africa, are preferred.
