Unusual Machines, Inc. of East Longmeadow, MA is a growing fabrication studio with proven success building Fantasy Weapons for Hollywood and TV.
We are currently looking for Part-Time Apprentice Model-Builders to help meet our growth targets for 2025/2026.
The Apprentice Model-Builder will be working under the guidance of a Senior Model-Builder and will have daily opportunities to develop skills with standard shop tools, metal forming, blacksmithing and electro-mechanical fabrication.
This Apprentice Model-Builder position is a skills-development opportunity preparing the apprentice for a Model-Builder position at Unusual Machines Inc. As such, we have a strong interest in your success.
This is a Part-Time Position (Saturday and Sundays only).
Key Responsibilities
- Assembling scale-models and mechanical assemblies with common shop tools.
- Modifying mechanical components using standard shop tools (i.e. drill press, electric hand tools, metal cutting, sanding, bending and forming tools).
- Upgrading parts or products to increase visual appeal and functionality of the end product.
- Collaborating with team members, suppliers and customers to ensure smooth production workflow and great product creation.
· Loading and unloading materials and tools.
· General Shop cleaning, orderly storage of tools and component inventory.
· Support the documentation (via photography and video) of unique builds for future duplication.
· Engage in feedback sessions and actively seek guidance to improve performance.
· Participate and successfully complete Power Tool Qualification Training Sessions.
· Travel and assisting with product shows, conventions, and marketing events is optional, but standard compensation rate applies if participating.
Requirements
- Excessive Imagination, Mechanical Creativity and “Out-of-the-Box” thinking.
- Familiarity with common hand tools and workbench equipment.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a very casual, and exciting environment and communicate effectively with Colleagues, Customers and Suppliers.
- Experience with building, modifying or designing Radio Control, Drones or Robotic machines.
- Working knowledge of Mathematics and basic Geometry.
Preferred Qualifications
- Military Experience (any branch, any era).
- Prior experience building and customizing Radio Control Models, Drones or Robotics.
- Strong imagination and ability to think creatively when addressing technical challenges.

Hourly rate is consistent with experience
