Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A contract opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to provide communication support in a high school setting. This role involves facilitating effective communication between hearing and deaf or hard-of-hearing students, staff, and faculty, ensuring equal access to educational content and activities. The position is based in Hillsborough, NH, and runs through the school year.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa for deaf or hard-of-hearing students.
- Assist in classrooms, meetings, and school events to support communication needs.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to enhance educational accessibility.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics in all interactions.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with the ability to accurately convey messages.
- Experience interpreting in educational or similar settings preferred.
- Strong understanding of the Deaf community and cultural nuances.
- Patience, attentiveness, and excellent communication skills.
