Love working with kids? Thrive on being the go-to support person? Dream of spending your summer outdoors by the lake—with housing and meals included? This is your moment! YMCA Camp Abnaki is looking for an energetic, organized, and upbeat Assistant Day Camp Director to help bring the magic to our day camp program for boys who’ve completed grades K–4. You’ll support counselors, help plan awesome activities, and keep the fun running smoothly—all while being part of a tight-knit camp family.


The contract for this position is from June 15 through August 22. Possibilities of pre-season and post-season work are also available.

What You’ll Do:

  • Support Daily Operations: Assist the Day Camp Director in ensuring all camp activities run smoothly and safely.
  • Mentor Staff: Provide guidance, encouragement, and feedback to counselors throughout the summer.
  • Help Plan Activities: Assist in scheduling and organizing engaging and age-appropriate games, crafts, and camp adventures.
  • Keep Things Running: Support attendance tracking, schedules, camper reports, and parent communication.
  • Solve Problems with Heart: Help manage camper behavior using patience, fairness, and creative solutions.
  • Keep Supplies Ready: Assist with keeping the Day Camp Shed organized, stocked, and program ready.
  • Help Kids Gear Up: Assist in running the camp store for Day Camp and help campers with purchases.
  • Connect with Families: Support communication with parents so they feel informed and confident about their child’s day.
  • Be a Camp Leader: Participate in evening watch, leadership training, and assist with supervision and leadership presence after Day Camp hours.

Salary:

$675-$835.48 / week based on a 6-day workweek

Requirements:

What We’re Looking For:

  • At least 20 years old with one year of college or work experience beyond high school.
  • Experience working with kids and a strong understanding of child development.
  • Great leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • A patient, fun-loving, and energetic personality.
  • Strong organizational skills for schedules, attendance, and camper reports.
  • Ability to lead small group activities and skill-based programs.
