POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Think Tank seeks an Aquarist to lead animal care, life support operations, and visitor services. This role ensures the health and wellbeing of over 140 marine species, supports rehabilitation of sea turtles, and contributes to NEFSC's mission of ocean literacy through public engagement and education.

RESPONSIBILIITIES:

  • Provide animal husbandry: feeding, health monitoring, enrichment, and care.

  • Operate and maintain life support systems (cold-water, temperate, tropical, quarantine, hospital, seal pool).

  • Inspect habitats and water quality; correct or report deficiencies.

  • Maintain detailed records of animal health, behavior, and system operations.

  • Assist veterinarians with exams, procedures, and medication administration.

  • Implement protocols to reduce stress, injury, and illness.

  • Develop and execute animal acquisition and dispensation plans.

  • Train and mentor staff, interns, and volunteers.

  • Support visitor services: tours, presentations, events, and safety.

  • Drive government vehicles for animal care/transport as needed.

  • Work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and occasional overtime.

  • Travel occasionally within the region for animal care and outreach.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Biology, Zoology, Biology, or related field.

  • 4+ years full-time experience in animal husbandry, with 2+ years specialized in marine display or laboratory aquarium systems.

  • Knowledge of marine animal care, enrichment, life support systems, and water quality monitoring.

  • Experience assisting veterinarians and administering animal health protocols.

  • Skills in animal training, public presentations, and visitor engagement.

  • Ability to maintain records, manage animal acquisitions, and oversee daily operations.

  • Flexible schedule; must work weekends/holidays as needed.

  • Qualified to operate a government vehicle; willing to travel regionally.
