Director of Bands

The White River Valley Schools are seeking an enthusiastic,
student-centered Director of Bands (1.0 FTE). This grades
5-12 position includes leading concert band ensemble
rehearsals (5th Grade Band, 6th Grade Band, 7/8 Band,
and High School Band) and facilitating our robust lesson
program. All 5-8 grade students receive a weekly small
group lesson or opt into our Private Lesson program
(available grades 5-12), which are both available during
the school day. The opportunity of continuing our
successful Jazz/Funk band is also strongly encouraged/
desired. A focus on equitable access paired with a 50+
year community tradition of supporting and valuing music
has our band enrollment representing over 25% of our high
school population.

Additional stipends available for performances/festivals
and Pit Orchestra Director.

This position will work collaboratively within our music
department to present student performances for
community events, participate in music festivals, and
engage in additional professional activities. We are
committed to providing our musicians opportunities for
reaching their greatest potential.

Inspire, Lead, and Celebrate Musical Excellence in Grades 5-12
White River Valley Schools, located in the scenic and
welcoming communities of Bethel and South Royalton, VT,
is seeking an enthusiastic and student-centered Director
of Bands (1.0 FTE) to lead our 5-12 instrumental music
program. Our district proudly supports a 50+ year tradition
of excellence in music education, with over 25% of our
high school students participating in band.

Position Summary:
The Director of Bands will lead concert band ensembles and
facilitate a comprehensive lesson program for students in
grades 5-12. This full-time position offers the opportunity
to nurture musicianship, build lasting community through

performance, and contribute to a robust and inclusive
music culture.

Key Responsibilities:

e Lead and conduct concert band ensembles, including:
o 5th Grade Beginning Band
o 6th Grade Middle School Band
o 7/8 Grade Middle School Band
o High School Band

® Coordinate and deliver weekly small group lessons for all
students in grades 5-8

eSupport and expand the Private Lesson program
(available grades 5-12)

e Maintain and grow student engagement through
additional ensemble opportunities, such as:
o Jazz/Funk Band (highly encouraged)

® Collaborate with music department colleagues on:
o School concerts
o Community events
o Local and regional music festivals

® Provide meaningful performance opportunities and ensure
equitable access to music education for all students

Qualifications:

* Demonstrated passion for instrumental music education
and student growth

e Strong conducting, instructional, and organizational skills

® Ability to build rapport with students, families, and
colleagues

e Experience with ensemble direction and lesson instruction
(grades 5-12 preferred)

e Commitment to equity, inclusion, and high-quality music
education
