Overview
Lead daily operations of a Cardiac Medical Unit at a 240-bed acute care facility in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the only hospital in the Seacoast region recognized as an ACS Verified Level II Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center. This RN Manager role provides hands-on leadership for a cardiac specialty unit serving communities throughout New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts. The facility features a robust heart and vascular program offering cutting-edge cardiovascular care. The position reports to the Director and focuses on patient satisfaction, quality outcomes, staff development, and fiscal responsibility. Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of Cardiac Medical Unit including scheduling, patient rounding, and ensuring optimal patient satisfaction and care experience.
- Maintain expert clinical knowledge in cardiac nursing and serve as resource for staff regarding cardiovascular patient care and monitoring.
- Work collaboratively with Director to guide department growth, patient satisfaction, physician relations, and fiscal responsibility.
- Supervise and direct delivery of patient care and care-related services in accordance with administrative policies, hospital vision, mission, and strategies.
- Interview, hire, and onboard qualified personnel to build high-performing cardiac nursing teams.
- Assess and evaluate employee work performance, implement learning and performance improvement plans, and complete annual staff evaluations.
- Counsel staff and implement disciplinary processes when indicated, including performance improvement plans and termination decisions.
- Assist with competency development, cardiac skills validation, and continuing education for nursing staff.
- Provide leadership in compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, national nursing standards, and cardiac specialty nursing standards.
- Assist with patient flow coordination to ensure efficient throughput and bed management across the cardiac unit.
- Evaluate patient outcomes and implement evidence-based practices to improve cardiac care quality metrics and clinical results.
- Assist Director with unit budget development, monitoring, and variance analysis.
- Maintain quality audits, monitor daily core measures, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for cardiac care.
- Monitor and maintain supply management to ensure cost-effective resource utilization.
- Collaborate with staff, cardiologists, and interdisciplinary teams to create a system of safe, quality cardiovascular healthcare delivery.
Qualifications
Required:
- Current New Hampshire RN license in good standing or active multi-state compact license
- Minimum 1-3 years of related acute care experience with cardiac nursing background
- Demonstrated cardiac experience (required)
- Strong clinical expertise in cardiovascular patient populations and cardiac monitoring
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work Monday-Friday days with no weekend requirements
Preferred:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from accredited program
- Previous charge nurse or leadership experience in cardiac/telemetry settings
- Experience with Level II Trauma Center or Comprehensive Stroke Center operations
- Cardiac specialty certifications (CCRN, CMC)
- Strong budget management and financial acumen
