We are seeking a full-time Kitchen Manager / Cookto join the Crozier House.

Crozier House is an initial voluntary 3–to-6-month Residential Recovery Service (RRS) licensed under the Bureau of Substance Addiction Services (BSAS) in Massachusetts along with all RRS Levels of Care for such programs like Crozier House. We have forged partnerships with other various agencies and insurance companies as a way to individualize our residents’ treatment, along with gaining financial assistance from Federal subsidies for substance use disorders.

Primary Responsibility: Responsible for the preparation of evening meals on weekdays, and for providing food for breakfast and lunch for residents to prepare for themselves.

Essential Duties:

  • Order and prepare food, sometimes responsible to make and pick-up food supplies.
  • Manage the kitchen and the residents working in the kitchen efficiently.
  • Responsible for the general cleanliness and order of the kitchen and the dining areas, all equipment, refrigerator, coolers, stove and storage areas.
  • Plan meals on a weekly basis after consultation with the Administrator in order to provide wholesome, appetizing and healthy meals.
  • Order sufficient quantities of perishable food and kitchen supplies for at least one week’s use.
  • Prepare and cook all food served on weekdays.
  • Supervise the dining room set-up and assure its readiness for meals.
  • Notify the Administrator of the need for repair and/or replacement of equipment.
  • Keep records and accounts of all purchases and supplies.
  • Check deliveries of food and kitchen supplies against the invoice for accuracy.
  • Pick up necessary day to day food supplies.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in food preparation and service.
  • Possess knowledge of substance abuse and the role of a residential halfway house in the recovery process.
  • Understand the confidential nature of the relationship with the residents living in Crozier House.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to write legibly and understand reports.
  • Possess a high level of maturity, sensitivity and the skill to deal with and communicate well with people.
  • Possess the ability to interact with residents and staff regarding daily operations of the program.
  • Consult with the Administrator on a regular basis.
  • Ability to keep accurate records.
  • Able to supervise residents in the preparation of the dining area, in serving food and in cleaning the kitchen and equipment.

Licenses/Certification:

  • Food Preparatory/Food Safety Certification

Physical/Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff and residents, especially persons of varied backgrounds and cultures.
  • Normal range of vision and hearing, with or without correction.
  • Must be able to climb stairs to access all areas of Catholic Charities and Crozier House.
  • Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds in order to access program supplies.
  • Must achieve a satisfactory rating during the annual performance evaluation program.
