Position Overview
The Assistant Manager plays a key role in daily operations, team leadership, and delivering an exceptional guest experience. This role is hands-on and requires mastery of Phase 1 in-shop skills and progression into Phase 3 management responsibilities, with structured training and support.
Key Responsibilities Phase 1: In-Shop Operations & Brand Standards
The Assistant Manager must be fully proficient in all in-shop functions, including:

Delivering legendary customer service and positive guest interactions

Mastery of the Jersey Mike’s sub-making process (hot & cold subs)
-
Slicing meats and cheeses to brand standards
-
Grill operations and hot sub execution
-
Register operation, cash handling, and order accuracy
-
Maintaining food safety, cleanliness, and sanitation standards
-
Proper opening and closing procedures
-
Upholding Jersey Mike’s appearance, speed, and quality expectations
-
Working effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Phase 3: Leadership & Management Responsibilities
As training progresses, the Assistant Manager will take on leadership duties, including:

Leading shifts and managing team performance
-
Coaching, training, and motivating crew members
-
Ensuring labor efficiency and productivity
-
Assisting with scheduling and shift coverage
-
Supporting inventory management, food ordering, and waste control
-
Enforcing company policies and procedures
-
Maintaining operational excellence during peak hours
-
Acting as Manager-on-Duty when needed
-
Helping develop future leaders within the store
3–6 Month Training Program Overview
Month 1–2: Phase 1 Mastery

Hands-on training in all in-shop positions

Focus on speed, accuracy, and customer service

Food safety and operational standards

Learning Jersey Mike’s culture and expectations
Month 3–4: Transition to Leadership

Running shifts with supervision

Coaching team members

Understanding labor, sales flow, and peak management

Introduction to inventory and scheduling concepts
Month 5–6: Phase 3 Management Development

Independent shift leadership

Performance management and team development
-
Advanced operational decision-making

Preparation for long-term growth into a General Manager role
