Position Overview

The Assistant Manager plays a key role in daily operations, team leadership, and delivering an exceptional guest experience. This role is hands-on and requires mastery of Phase 1 in-shop skills and progression into Phase 3 management responsibilities, with structured training and support.

Key Responsibilities Phase 1: In-Shop Operations & Brand Standards

The Assistant Manager must be fully proficient in all in-shop functions, including:

  • Delivering legendary customer service and positive guest interactions

  • Mastery of the Jersey Mike’s sub-making process (hot & cold subs)

  • Slicing meats and cheeses to brand standards

  • Grill operations and hot sub execution

  • Register operation, cash handling, and order accuracy

  • Maintaining food safety, cleanliness, and sanitation standards

  • Proper opening and closing procedures

  • Upholding Jersey Mike’s appearance, speed, and quality expectations

  • Working effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

Phase 3: Leadership & Management Responsibilities

As training progresses, the Assistant Manager will take on leadership duties, including:

  • Leading shifts and managing team performance

  • Coaching, training, and motivating crew members

  • Ensuring labor efficiency and productivity

  • Assisting with scheduling and shift coverage

  • Supporting inventory management, food ordering, and waste control

  • Enforcing company policies and procedures

  • Maintaining operational excellence during peak hours

  • Acting as Manager-on-Duty when needed

  • Helping develop future leaders within the store

3–6 Month Training Program Overview

Month 1–2: Phase 1 Mastery

  • Hands-on training in all in-shop positions

  • Focus on speed, accuracy, and customer service

  • Food safety and operational standards

  • Learning Jersey Mike’s culture and expectations

Month 3–4: Transition to Leadership

  • Running shifts with supervision

  • Coaching team members

  • Understanding labor, sales flow, and peak management

  • Introduction to inventory and scheduling concepts

Month 5–6: Phase 3 Management Development

  • Independent shift leadership

  • Performance management and team development

  • Advanced operational decision-making

  • Preparation for long-term growth into a General Manager role
