About this role:
The Youth Mentor provides supportive, community-based mentoring services to youth in a variety of living situations, including foster care, residential programs, and biological homes. The Youth Mentor helps participants develop life skills that foster independence, safety, self-growth, and long-term success. This role emphasizes relationship-building, advocacy, and community engagement to empower youth in achieving their goals.
Programs:
- Independent Living -
- Youth are 18-22 years of age
- Schedule: Sunday through Thursday, 10 am - 6 pm
- Support and Stabilization -
- Youth are 5-21 years of age
- Schedule: Sunday through Thursday, 9 am - 5 pm
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field preferred.

Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience working with youth or in a related field required.

Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Therapeutic and empathetic awareness of the impact of trauma on youth development.

Knowledge of community resources to support youth and families.
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to use technology for documentation.

Commitment to community-based supports and inclusive practices.
Physical Requirements:
- Extensive travel required
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time
- Ability to climb stairs
- Ability to make in-home visits to youth and their families
- Ability to use a phone and computer for extended periods of time
Responsibilities:

Provide one-on-one mentoring and support to youth through weekly visits.

Build respectful and trusting relationships that encourage growth, confidence, and independence.

Assist youth in developing skills related to personal care, decision-making, social interactions, economic stability, and community participation.

Transport youth to appointments, activities, and community events.

Support youth in identifying and accessing age-appropriate resources and opportunities.
-
Encourage participation in enrichment activities such as arts, sports, recreation, and other areas of interest.

Collaborate with families, caregivers, internal staff, and community providers to ensure coordinated and effective supports.

Participate in care planning, coordination meetings, and progress reviews.

Advocate for youth to ensure they have access to services, opportunities, and safe environments.

Provide guidance on adult responsibilities such as financial management, employment readiness, and independent living skills.

Assess youths’ readiness for self-sufficiency and independent living as appropriate.

Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with agency standards.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
